The Way of Kings | Leather Bound Edition Unboxing & Review (Damaged)

We were very excited for the 10th anniversary edition of The Way of Kings, which was part of a very successful Kickstarter campaign from Dragonsteel Entertainment, to come in. That being said, the quality we found on the second volume was sub par, and clearly printed differently. The cover had gold bleed all over it, and the letters has begun scraping off before we opened it.

Imogen, you shine in your intros more than any gold embossing on a leather bound book ever could. It is a shame that the quality of the second volume is not up to the standard set by the text it contains.

How exciting! I love beautiful leather bound editions of books. I have quite a few in my library. Audiobooks are fine, but there’s nothing like a fine hardback edition for the tactile sensation and smell.

The conditions of the books in your library must be varied. I recall from a previous video that Jen the Ripper is rough with books while Dakota treats books gingerly.

That's a shame about the foil misprint / flaking on the 2nd book. Some people have had similar issues with previous Dragonsteel books . The good news is Brandon's team are really helpful at resolving these issues so you should definitely contact them.

Glad more youtubers are showing these flaws, which are consistent with problems I had with prior leatherbounds from Dragonsteel. What's disconcerting is not that they had misprints (which can happen at any time), but that there seemed to be no process in actually quality checking the books before they box them up to ship. They really seemed to be rushing the process this year. They had to have understood that by rushing the process they are actually slowing down production, in being forced to address these mishaps after the fact. Counter productive to say the least, and disappointing. Now I'm worried for my copies, whenever they get to me.

Any update from Dragonsteel? This seems to be happening to almost every copy. Imagine how I felt since I got the $500 edition. Reddit pics show that the gold foil just seems to be on a majority of the copies. I posted about this but people were quick to say that it’s normal, while very few said it’s just the poor creation of leatherbounds. I’m glad y’all seem to be the first to point this out while “bigger” youtubers haven’t acknowledged this even though you can see the same thing on their books.

Ok first, I think it’s the first time I’ve heard you call yourself "Imogen" instead of Gen, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say that name in English before (I have heard it in French though, and it sounds quite different). My point is, really beautiful name and rare at least to me, I love it.
Second, OH MY GOD I love beautiful fancy leather bound books.

Hi, did you ever get an update with the issue with volume 2 ? I paid $400 (really expensive shipping costs) and I have the same issues as you guys as well as the spine foil really missing a lot of foil and depth. I've had people say this is the charm of leather bound printing, and the company respond that it's actually within normal variation but if I want I can get an exchange (if postage will be covered as im outside the US, I don't know.)

It's really killed my enthusiasm, really felt the disappointment you had in this video. I hadn't even noticed the printing depth issue you guys picked up on because I was scared to rub any more foil off volume 2 but now I feel even more dissapointed. I had my copy for a few week and opened it on my birthday too!

I probably sound like an idiot but getting an exchange I'm not even sure will feel the same, with me being outside the US, possible posting charges, waiting another few month maybe ? I dunno, we'll see.
