Fixing the WORST Bug Type Pokemon

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you may notice that bug type Pokemon are some of the worst in many competitive formats such as VGC and smogon. Which is why we'll be trying to fix some of their issues!

Giving bad pokes huge power or prankster is the least imaginative way to “fix” them. And in Ledian’s case, huge power is okay sure, but both is so lol.

I agree that some bug type pokemon are just terrible but that goes for a lot of pokemon of all types.

What Bug type needs is to fix its typing.

Make Bug super effective against Fairy type instead of it not being very effective.

Make Bug type resists Dark, Psychic, and Fairy types.

With that, we'll then look into how we can improve the still lacking Bug type pokemon.

Honestly, a lot of these changes are pretty uninspired. Adding stat points to Pokémon can be fine, but adding 85 is absolutely absurd. At that point, it would be more interesting to just add a new evolution to Ledian. Giving it an enormous stat boost and changing two abilities basically turns it into a different Pokémon. Similarly, boosting Kricketune’s speed by 33% seems pretty extreme. Seems like another case where another evolution makes sense

Golisopod was done so dirty as Emergency Exit is so bad since it show's this menacing shogun looking beetle is still a huge coward

also it's really odd yet interesting that Scyther and it's evolutions have the exact same stat total, but are distributed differently and each specialize in something:

scyther: focusing on speed
scizor: leveraging on the Technician boosts
kleavor: slice and dice everything with Sharpness

I feel like regenerator would make sense with golidopod making it more like a pokemon that tactically retreeats

Not saying you shouldn't buff them, but you can get Krickitune pretty early in Gen 4. So a pokemon with 100 attack at that time would be pretty strong.

Beautifly: swap it’s attack with it’s special defense, give it the fairy/bug type with some fairy moves, boost its speed with 20 points, give it tinted lenses.

Dustox: give it 20 points in defense and 10 points in hp. Give it the ability filter or corrosion.

Beedril: take 30 points of its special attack and put it into speed, and put 20 points into its attack. Give it adaptability as an ability

Ariados: lower special attack with 30 points and give 10 each to hp, defense and sp def. Then also give it 15 more in attack, with the ability no guard and move gunk shot —> in trick room Ariados will be able to hit with accurate megahorns, gunk shots, and drill runs

I'm not a big fan of inverting Golisopod's signature ability. The whole point of it having a powerful priority move that can only be used the turn it's switched in, is because it has an easy way to switch out. And this is completely lost if you completely rework what is unique about Golisopod.

Golisopod would be a meta-defining threat if it simply attacked first _before_ it gets switched out by its ability.

Giving Ledian Huge Power wouldn't fix it, because its attack stat would still be really low.

Early bird isn't a worse version of vital spirit. A pokemon with vital spirit can't use rest, but a pokemon with early bird can, and it will wake up after only sleeping for one turn

The real problem is that its from alola and consequently is slow as balls. If it was fast it could use choice band with a move like superpower and be able to switch out and reset the stat drops. Or it could use double edge to intentionally go below 50% and use it like a pivot move
