The Bug Type Sucks.

It's no secret that the absolute worst type in Pokemon is Bug - but how would you even go about fixing it? Well, Pokemon World Champion Wolfe Glick is here to tell you how.

Fun fact: Bugs can't get dizzy from spinning around. They don't have an inner ear like us humans that controls their balance and tells them which way is up. So it makes sense for them to not be confused.

Fairy being resistant to Bug was the most baffling part of the type when they added it. Here's a new type we're adding seemingly specifically to balance overpowered or underperforming types... And make it resist Bug because Bug really needs a 7th type that resists it? Why tho? Who thought Bug needed nerfs?

I love them being immune to Confusion because that means the hypothetical Dragon/Bug type I want so badly would be able to spam Outrage without the drawback

I loved this video. Justice for the bad bugs

I want to see Wolfey create a new type and see how he would implement it competitively and thematically

For the Fairy type to be immune to Dragon, strong against Dark and Fighting and to be only damaged super effectively from the second weakest type (Poison) and the rarest type (Steel), there is absolutely no need for it to be strong against Bug too.

Love the idea of swapping around the Fairy interaction. Really this alone would probably make using bugs actually fun in a casual setting as well!

Fun Fact: It was his love of collecting and cataloging bugs that gave Satoshi Tajiri the initial idea for Pokemon. So it’s a shame that the bug type performs so poorly imo.

I was dumbfounded when I first found out fairy resists bug… It doesn’t make any sense and I’m so glad you pointed that out

100% agree with the bug/fairy type effectiveness swap, this would make the game so much more balanced

I've been on the "make bug super effective against fairy" train for a while, good on you for expanding on it

Massively agree with this, especially with the rework of X-scissor. It really has no point in existing when you consider that leech life and Lunge both have the same base power of 80 and have the secondry effects of healing and ATK debuff. But if X-scissor get that higher crit chance then Sniper bugs like Ariados would be so fun to use, especially with the fairy changes.

I’ve always thought that fairy should be weak to bug, the reason is that I always imagine a fairy getting caught in a spiders web.

Definitely think that the fairy change makes a ton of sense, it would also do a bit to weaken fairy types and increase their weaknesses, since 2 seems super low.

As someone that has recently discovered how many Bug Pokémon they actually like, I really appreciate this video. Would love to see Kricketune or Armaldo become viable

What did you do to make Caterpie cry?!

I feel like if bug just wasn't resisted by fairy, fighting, or ghost it would be just ok.

Aside from removing Fighting’s resistance to it, I’d say everything changed made thematic sense. Being... for lack of a better term, simple creatures, Psychic’s mind tricks, Dark’s manipulation and overall confusion would be too foreign for them. And being the world’s most abundant type of animal, bugs if any creature would be more connected to nature than fairies, plus that connection means Fairy could be considered a “pseudo-Grass” which Bug is also strong against.

I really like the concept of bug being super effective on fairies and resistant to it. Fairy pokemon usually have a royalty or cutesy feel to them, so i think it would make sense for them to be scared or grossed out by bugs.
