A classic recipe for Vanilla Cake!

Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter softened to room temperature (113g)
½ cup canola oil* (120ml)
1 1/2 cup sugar 300g
4 eggs room temperature preferred
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour (375g)
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup buttermilk room temperature preferred (300ml)
1 batch Chocolate Frosting

Instructions
00:00 Introduction

00:23 Preheat oven to 350F (177C) and prepare two deep 8" round cake pans** by lining the bottoms with parchment paper and lightly greasing the sides. Set aside.

00:28 In the bowl of a stand mixer (or in a large bowl using an electric mixer) cream together the butter, canola oil and sugar until creamy and well-combined.

00:49 Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla extract.

01:22 In a separate, medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

02:00 Using a spatula and gently hand-mixing, alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour mixture and mixing until just combined after each addition. The batter should be smooth and completely combined, but avoid over-mixing.

04:40 Evenly divide batter into your prepared cake pans, and bake on 350F (175C) for 30-35 minutes. When the cake is done, the surface should spring back to the touch and a toothpick inserted in the center should come out mostly clean with few moist crumbs (no wet batter).

05:20 Allow cakes to cool in their cake pans for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto cooling rack to cool completely before frosting.

06:06 Frost cake using my chocolate frosting and decorate with sprinkles (if desired).

Thank you for posting this recipe Sam ! After 5 attempts I finally landed on your recipe and alleluia success ! It’s perfectly sweet and light and fluffy melt in your mouth delish! I didn’t realize how difficult a simple recipe could be. I heeded your tips and pointers as well as the most recent tip I picked up on another YouTube channel which was to calibrate or check the accuracy of your oven. Mine was way off . I finally figured out that if I chose the pie option instead of regular bake it stayed closer to the selected temp. And it was also recommended that if you bake in anything other than plain aluminum pans you should decrease temp to 325. All of these tips and your perfect recipe helped me achieve a light and moist yellow cake even with my wacky oven ! Thank you again! I’ve printed and saved and liked, subscribed and did screen shot and commented in hopes I won’t lose this recipe! LoL

I tried the cake and omg it came out way fluffier than any other vanilla cakes iv tried using oil and butter both gives it a good flavour of butter and moist texture to the cake i cannot thank u enough for sharing this recipie i am certain this is my fav vanila cake recipie and definetly a crowd pleaser !

I didn't read ALL the comments so I apologize if this is a duplicate recommendation. If you put a dab of the chocolate frosting on the plate BEFORE you place the bottom cake layer it will help hold it in place. It's a nice video and i look forward to trying your recipe. Thanks

Your classic Vanilla Cake recipe is the first cake I've ever made from scratch and it was perfect delicious along w your chocolate buttercream frosting. I've just bought white baking chocolate along w Hersheys coco power to try making white chocolate and chocolate frosting swirl on that vanilla cake.

I made this cake!! It’s good and moist and your chocolate icing really sets it off. Of course, I realized while reading the recipe for your chocolate icing that I left out the vanilla in the cake…I don’t know how I missed this!! I made sure to not forget the vanilla in the frosting. I’ll make another one of your yellow cake/chocolate icing cakes in the future…the updated version of this recipe, and I won’t forget the vanilla 😊
