In this video, Chuck Keith covers CUCM's features for preventing dropped calls — the single greatest sin for a collab engineer. Understand how setting up Call Forwarding, Shared Lines, Call Park, Call Pickup, and Call Hunting can help your organization avoid any dropped calls, ever.

Call coverage is a package of features that CUCM uses to help prevent dropped calls. There's call forwarding, you can set a timer and forward after that time passes - to voicemail or a different number. With shared lines, you connect multiple phones to the same number, and when the directory number gets called, all the phones ring. Call pickup allows you to forward the call to a group of phones after a time has passed. If you want to skip the calling part altogether, you can automatically forward the call to hold with call park. And with call hunting, a series of commands can get implemented on the call combined with timers — start with one directory number, then after 20 seconds try the second number, and then the third, and so on.

Collaboration is cool. I just feel like with the rise of instant messaging, and other forms of communication, classic phone calls are just becoming less and less business critical. RIP CUCM 💀
