MicroNugget: How to Use BSR for IPv4 MCaST

In this video, Anthony Sequeira covers his favorite way to assign rendezvous points in an IPv4 multicast environment: BSR, or Bootstrap Router. BSR support in Cisco routers popped up around 11.3T. Prior to this, everyone was dealing with Auto RP, or auto rendezvous point, which was a proprietary solution where Cisco decided they weren’t going to wait for a way to automate RP dissemination, and instead created their own procedure. BSR doesn’t replace Auto RP; it simply augments its capabilities to provide a well-rounded, comprehensive way to assign rendezvous points in a multicast environment. Anthony will walk you through a brief history of BSR, the reasoning behind it, and then show you the three main steps required to set up and configure this functionality.
