Well... 5 years ago I bought a 8kg kettlebell. I was doing the swing for about 20 minutes.. The next 3 days I could barely walk.. That was how bad I did this exercise.. Very bad
I didn't touch the thing for 5 years after that.
Yesterday, I tried again with my newly gained knowledge over the years. I did the swing for 30 minutes (deep breaths inbetween every 10-20 swings). While I DO feel it in my back and clutes today. It was no way near the disaster 5 years ago...

This is a really good and helpful video. And you are not trying to sell me any bullshit, other than good solid advice.. Thanks you! ❤

I have arthritis, but I can still do the basic swing. I have been doing it for years using a 32KG kettlebell. But every time I watch your videos I pick up something that I’m not doing correctly. Keep up the good work. I hope to reach perfection one day.

That "stick" trick to correct hip hinge is a game changer! Great video!

So glad you mention the “baby weight” phenomenon. Nothing worse than videos with pumped up men — with clearly no previous kettlebell training — performing an alleged “swing” with a mini kettlebell.

I saw one bloke doing a “one arm swing” *throwing* a 10 kg kettlebell from one hand into the other. 😂

Your video with Luka teaching the hardstyle swing is the best tutorial for the swing I’ve seen. I still rewatch it every once in a while.

The stick for the hinge is a great cue. So is the weight tip - I started out with a very light weight and my form was terrible. Once I increased the weight, my form improved greatly.

This is the best video of kettle bell swing form I’ve found. Thanks. Been struggling how to do it properly as I’ve heard that the spine has to be straight and perform the hinge in order to not put undue strain on the spine. Finally I can understand it.

how is this not at least 200k views is beyond me. This explains the posture, area of body to focus your strength on when doing the swing and most importantly mistakes to avoid.
Great video!

A1! I keep wondering if I am doing this wrong. The answer is yes... or rather was yes. You are phenomenal at giving clear instructions. (Subscribed)
I had injured my back exactly a month ago today. The age 70 massage therapist starts talking about kettle bells. Best help of all the therapy.

as a 60plus male, I think another thing is to use a lighter weight until you get the basics right, also, for me I get tingling in my right hand fingers like a nerve pinch so it is a bit difficult to do these reps. something with the kettle movement, I never have that when I am doing wieghts.. I think kettleballs are called a kenetic exercise that puts a stress on your arms not normally associated with weights.

I remember when I first started doing the kettlebell swing, I was told to feel like you are fing the air with each thrust of your hips. After that I never really forgot. But this video did show me I was bending my knees too much. I hope to correct this from here on out. Thanks for these great tips.

for mistake 7, you can try doing swings holding a towel wrapped around the handle. because you don't have a rigid connection between the arm and the kettlebell, you'll know if you are using your arms to lift the kettlebell rather than momentum from the hips if the kettlebell hangs straight down from your hands at the top of the movement.

Ugh!!! Some of those examples really burned my eyes!!

I see a lot of videos of people drop way down on the back swing. The way I was taught was essentially your hands are up in your crotch when you bring it back. That helps keep my back straight so I'm guaranteeing the power comes from the hip hinge vs. trying to create power with my upper back. As you get to the higher weights, this becomes A LOT more more important, especially in avoiding injury.

I find with the kettlebell it’s really good for your stability. I find that Iam walking better and feel stronger all over. I have tried loads of things over the years but think this is the best piece of equipment you can incorporate in your daily workouts.
