The hard part about social anxiety is that sometimes it just goes out of control, sometimes when i'm at the university and when i meet my class mates especially girls i just can't lift my head to look them in the eyes damn... and after we leave i just feel a huge wave of negative emotions.

Yes definitely eye contact is the problem for me. If I keep eye contact with someone for more than a second I think they are thinking that I’m in love with them 🤣🤣🤣

I've been forcing myself to go to social events alone to meet people for the past 2 months. What I've realized is that it's not as scary as my brain told me it was going to be.

I've had negative experiences in the past at social events. But the more you put yourself in uncomfortable situations, the easier it gets.

first few minutes of this.. i never expected to cry watching thru. I have such bad social anxiety and my avoidance has come to a point where im literally avoiding all phone calls and going to see anyone.. I mean i guess covid is a good excuse lol.. But this video was absolutely beautiful and i really felt connected to Nathan and everything he was saying! Thank you for showing me a clear, concise path to tackle my own mind. I am going to do my best to expose myself to more of these uncomfortable situations and actively try to challenge these thoughts!! Thank you<3

One thing that works for me is putting my phone away. I no longer use this at a crutch when Im out in public. Its totally difficult but I believe it helps!🙌🙌 Copied

Yes! I use my kids as a crutch sometimes. I wanted them to learn to talk to others, but now I find myself giving them opportunities to speak so that I don't have to 😬. And I definitely avoid eye contact so that people don't talk to me, I love the hierarchy challenge beginning with eye contact!

this was reassuring. i feel like i have a long journey ahead of me but i can definitely start off by forcing myself to make eye contact! i like how approachable you make this feel. it’ll be a struggle getting to the saying hi point, but at least now I have a place to start. thanks nathan :-)

Everytime I go out I feel like everybody is looking at me and saying bad things to me and my mind is full of imagination of embarassing things that might happen to me while walking :( :(

I love your As a counseling student, I'm learning so much from your channel! I often refer to your videos for additional insight when we're posed with mock scenarios as homework, and it's incredibly helpful for me. Thank you for providing this content!!

Having social anxiety, and being the new kid, in a new state, at a new college, really sucks.
I miss my friends and coworkers at home who I felt completely comfortable with, after we all got to know eachother its like that anxiety went away... I could flourish, and we'd all enjoy eachother's company.
Now I feel lost, and I get physically anxious when I want to walk up to a group and introduce myself, even though I want to.

What if the social anxiety has been built because of past experiences? I can't disregard them. Do you have any suggestion ?
