Buying A Demo Car From A Dealership-Is It Worth It?

In this video, I talk about buying a demo car from a dealership. I specifically talk about whether or not it is worth it to buy one! My honest opinion is that it isn't worth it to buy a demo car simply because the slight discount that you get on the purchase price is not worth getting a car that has already been used by one or more drivers as opposed to a new car that hasn't been driven yet! I go into more detail, and fully explain my opinion in the video!

I think it also depends on the dealership and warranty. I bought a demo KIA - still has 6 years warranty, I saved ca. 20%, car looks like new, drives like new, although it has 8k km.

So far happy.

weird. when i drive a vehicle i dont own, im extra careful with it. must be the way i was raised, ie to respect other people and their belongings.

I think it depends on the car. If it's a high performance car, especially, then it might be worth having a demo, because you know it's less likely that anyone were to have ever tracked it or done as much spirited driving as they might after weeks or months of "learning it". Great video, thanks for sharing!

My neighbor works at a car dealership and drives a probably Demo all the time. He lives over 50 miles one way from the dealership. He allows his girlfriend to drive it too and even puts their dogs in it all the time. Uses the trunk, everything. How is this legal to use and sell afterwards? Plus, in this day and age with gas prices, the car buyer is going to pay for their waste and abuse. Pathetic!

I went to buy a new 22 malibu. Upon arrival it was a demo with 3k miles. Not new. And they'd only budge 1k off. I was expecting 10% off or 3k off. Walked out.

I'm saving 15% on a demo that's traveled 1500km, the warranty and service plan is 5 yrs/unlimited km and 5 yrs/90k km respectively. I'm also putting down a 25% Deposit so the retail value of the car and the principal debt will be in my favor throughout the payment term I think I won on this 1.

I bought Toyota Auris hybrid maxed out for 18k instead of 26k. Savings - 8k. The car was on accident and were damaged slightly, so the dealership fixed it with original materials and the car drives like new, feels like new and costs 35% cheaper.

I’ve personally seen dealership managers treat demo cars like shit. I’d stay away

Thank you for the video. Quick question. What if the demo I am looking at has 5, 300 mileage and it is 2019 Porsche. What is your concern?

Please help! Im in the process of buying a 2021 buick, its a demo with 28 miles on it. Just 28. Not 28, 000. Is it really a demo? And theyre saying im getting major rebates on it, but im wondering why is it so simple inside?

Are you kidding me? 10-15% savings not enough? Plus, while this car was driven by multiple drivers, any mechanical or other defects will have surfaced and, hopefully, fixed under the warrant. If not, then the buyer will (most likely) notice them right away or very soon after the purchase, thereby having the still-current warranty to get them fixed!
FYI, I have bought a few such cars and never had any issues. Besides, the dealer will clean it meticulously, you can insist on it, before the final out-the-door moment! Yes, I totally, agree with you that the "start date" of the warranty is very important and, could provide you with an additional arrow of negotiation in your quiver.

An 05 I bought a car that retailed for $28, 000 for $15, 000 with $15, 000 miles on it. They call that an executive car.
Seem to be worth it cuz I got luxuries I would not otherwise have paid for. Areexecutive car is different than demo cars

Do dealerships need to tell you it is a demo at any point during the process? I financed a car and wasn’t told it was a demo, I paid as if it was brand new. Zero savings... I was definitely pushed towards it and just assumed new meant new— meaning a barely existent ODO. On the way home I noticed the ODO read almost 3.9K, I got fleeced. Also does the demo status make a trade in value much worse? I’m only a week and a half into the finance term.

When I do a test drive I don't care about vehicle. What I want - I want to understand what car can do. I won't be careful with it. I want to understand how it performs on high speed etc. I want to understand - should I buy it or not. Our local dealers are selling demo cars at price of new car motivating it with "no need to wait for a car for several months".

The dealership I’m looking for a truck ... their demos are all about $10, 000 off and they say they retire them as demo cars at 4000 miles . And the particular one I’m looking at only has 2700 miles so I’m kind of confused maybe this video is old or maybe... I don’t know

When I say $10, 000 off I mean off of MSRP

Warranty starts when you buy demo! If no its a scam!
