90s Rally had to follow the notorious 'Group B', which had already become legendary in popular culture. However, that didn’t mean there wasn’t anymore room for some new icons.

If you grew up with access to the more rural areas of the UK, it’s likely that rallying is as much in your blood as if you’d been born in Norway or Finland. It was a sport that brought all manner of car fans together. It still does.

This is why the ‘90s saw many of the most popular rally cars of all time. The Sony PlayStation didn’t hurt their legendary status, either. Especially with games such as Colin McRae Rally (1998). But what cars were the best of the bunch?

The Subaru Impreza, Lancia Delta or Toyota Celica? Or is it something else? Let us know in the comments.

I left school in 1991 and my first job was an apprentice Mechanic in a Lancia dealership in Swindon ... Lancia were dominating at the time and it was just amazing to watch the WRC then go and work on them ... Great video, the 90's was unquestionably the best era of motorsport.

Subaru Fanboy, the legacy sound did it for me and Colin was the cherry on top. Middleaged now and lucky enough to own a S1 Legacy, a STI V2 RA and a STI 555, cant get enough of them and the childhood grin is still the same every time I hear or drive them.

90' cars are the best. I grew up with posters of rally cars on the walls of my room, years later I am lucky to have these cars in my garage. I love them with all my heart, they are magnificent.

We used to have the Sunseeker Rally every year in Bournemouth. Would have a week or so of rally cars booting around town, night stages through the town gardens and beach front and woodland stages with cars whipping past only inches away. Those days were immense.

I had the opportunity to watch the safari in Kenya. Colin Mcrea in his Subaru Impreza, Saints in the Toyota Celica 185 and later the 205. The intergral was a monster car.

Absolutely loved the WRC Group A years and I was lucky enough to attend every Rally Australia from 1989 to 2001. The early years were the best, such a mix of cars and drivers and you really could get so close to them. I had a Subaru Library RS Turbo as it was known in Australia and later on an Escort RS Turbo Series 1 plus a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5 Tomii Makinen Edition. I was definitely a Group A fan! One day I'll get a Lancia Delta Integrale 16v, that was always my favourite.

The connection was through watching the WRC on TV and playing games like Colin McRae or Gran Turismo.

I owned an st205 years ago and currently own a Lancer Evolution III that I’ve had for 11 years and still love as much as the day I got it. 90’s Group A homologation cars are amazing.

They are truly right, rally in the 90s was the best. You felt the driver and the navigator were more connected pushing the limits of the car to the best performance on a given stage.

Great video! I was lucky enough to see the Michelin Pilot Escort Cosworth & meet it's driver, Malcom Wilson, at a local car show in 1993. I never got to see it rallying, but being up close to it & being able to look inside & under the bonnet etc, was an incredible experience that I'll never forget & the Escort Cosworth will always be one of my favourite cars of all time 🙂

Group B had more spectacle, but Group A was the real golden age of 4wd in terms of competition, stories and drama. What a thing is was to witness first hand.

Best years that the cars ever produced either rallying or road going. Thank god I am old enough to see them on stages. Those are pure driving machines not like todays playstationish cars...

Followed the rac for many years for me remembering Juha Carlos Ari Didier and the upcoming Colin in the Legacy was memories I’ll never forget just a few of the names but for me getting over to grizedale when it’s -4 in the dark freezing my balls off waiting for the sun to rise and the tremendous noise from the cars was neck hair heaven I’m typing this now and that buzz is still there. I must find my half hour camcorder video possibly in my mams loft on vhs featuring me a spotty teenager and my slightly older know it all brother 😂😂The best bit was we used to borrow my dads Legacy to have fun with 😂
