The one issue With My New 2024 Toyota 4Runner…Cracking 

New Toyota 4Runners are coming with cracks on their engine casting it’s pretty much on all 24s that I’ve seen and some 23s and possibly even more leave a comment and let me know if your Toyota 4Runner is having this issue

Those are not cracks. It’s from the casting process. As the dies have aged it’s not as clean and leaves the slag looking stuff on the engine. Quit calling them cracks.

Got 2 of them 2024 TRD offroad premiums brand new and alignments are absolutely perfect. Same scratches on the engine by design...

That is called heat check. It is not at all detrimental to the function of a cover on a non mating surface. It is surface level only. Many companies will shot blast these parts to make a more uniform finish, Toyota did not. - Former die cast engineer.

Complete red herring....it is simply casting web marks, absolutely of no concern whatsoever. My 4runner has them, as does every other 4runner I have seen, including one with 300K on it, and no problems with the engine.

The molds for the block are old since this engine is a decades old beast. They are not going to recast the molds since the 4.0 is going away. TOTALLY cosmetic.

It’s not frigging cracking folks, it’s from the casting. If you don’t want to look at it sand it down

It’s not an issue brother, my TRD ORP has it also my wife’s 23 SR5P has it.. I went back to the dealer soon as I noticed it and checked all the news ones they had on the lot and they all the same way.. it’s normal. Enjoy your truck

I have a 2018 and no cracks at all on either side totally clean

Those are not cracks. That is just the rough surface in the casting. Does not hurt a thing. The machined surfaces. I am sure are perfect.

I have a 24 trd off road premium, seen another video that shows that, so i went & looked at mine, it also has it, i think its just cosmetic.

My '23 4R Limited has "cracking" in the same places, but not as extensive. I ran my fingers along the cracks, and they're external, so other than being unsightly, shouldn't be an issue.

My 2023 has the casting marks. Mine was built in September of 23. Purely cosmetic.

It is a huge defect. You should sell me your 4Runner now for $15, 000 so you don't need to worry about it.

Yes I hear you on aging tooling machines

I agree with quality Japanese product made assemble in Japan

Aside from this disfigurement

I stay with Toyota made assemble in Japan

NOT made assemble in Mexico or for that matter in USA

Compare to other poorly engineered and unreliable quality and expensive Stellantis, Volkswagen, etc

I would consider made in USA

My 2022 CRV had similar cracks on the cvt sides. Looks like as some others mentioned it’s just the molding that causes this to happen.

Untamed has reported this and I believe it's been there for a few years. I'm getting mine Saturday so I'll look for it.

I purchased a 2024 4Runner Limited with a build date of January 2024 and have the same issue on my engine.
