The top corners are rounded because the top is made for only the status bar. under the status bar is the regular "screen" that has all corners squared. This makes perfect sense in macOS but I don't know about using another OS.

I do not think anyone will care about rounded corners, especially as they are not affecting the usable display, apps will be squared off, it is just the taskbar that will have its corners rounded. Those rounded corners gives consistency as the lid edges are also rounded off, more flow to the design than just copy every other OEM just because that is what existed before?

That's not a issue. Notch is big issue, They could have given punch hole instead of notch...
