I never got to finish this bike, so it's time to see what over $5000 in upgrades can do.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, you can’t expect All Mountain/ Enduro like performance out of down-country bike. It’s made for XC, fast and efficient.

You mentioned the Yeti feels really good on the tech climbs, because this is what the bike is designed for. It’s not designed to bomb down rough DH trails like a toboggan. Since it seems like you enjoy descending the most, buy a long, slack frame with at least 140 rear /150 front, if not more travel. At that point you’d feel better descending even without the crazy high end parts.

I understand you do this stuff for entertainment and as a business, but you have to understand what a bike is designed for, and that no amount of fancy high end parts is going to change that drastically.

I had to cut with a grinder, an inch or two off the seat tube on my marlin because of the same issue. I cut it down to where there was just enough room for the clamp to sit comfortably down against that welded support piece between the seat tube and the top tube. It instantly felt better. It was so high that my fully extended 150mm dropper didn't fit between me @6ft and the bike. Never had a problem after the mod.

Love your channel! I agree on the seat stay problem with the D7.

I've wondered if getting shorter cranks would help, but it seems like the smallest common size is 165mm, and the bike already comes with 170mm (less than 1/4 inch difference).

Initially I wondered about cutting down the seat stay a bit, but even that doesn't have much room to decrease before hitting either the triangular reinforcement, or bottoming out the dropper post (unless a smaller one is used).

I'm hoping for the future, they find a way to reposition the reinforcement, so that a shorter seat tube and dropper can be used.

I have 1200 miles in very similar terrain on my Medium/27.5's and I LOVE THIS BIKE! Other than riser stem, grips and seat it is stock and more than the sum of it's parts for $1800 delivered! My Trek 930 XC from 96 is sad and lonely now!

My fav bike channel on yt love the mix of mechanics and riding and great analysis and opinions

The sense of "compliance" on the Yeti is likely from the high frequency vibration dampening from the carbon frame.

Polygon siskiu is a very well built frame.
You said it before this Polygon fits you perfectly and it has the fastest time of your bikes.

Another great video Evan! Stoked to hear you love the geometry on the D7 so much. The build looks awesome 😍

One of your videos was recommended to me a few weeks ago while I was sitting around sick with Covid. I've watched a handful since. I've never seen someone switch around parts so much, it kinda makes me laugh. However I'm impressed with your mechanic skills. I fall short when it comes to wheel building. I've replaced broken spokes, but I dont have the patience to build a whole wheel from the hub up.

I don’t know. I think every one of those geo measurements are different enough to feel when riding. If I move reach or stack by 5 mm, I can feel it. When you combine incremental changes on a bunch of measurements it’s bound to feel different.

this was a cool video, I just bought my wife the D7 and its cool to see what are some useful upgrades. The D7 seems very capable straight out of the box.

I never ridden carbon wheels ever, own two bike's one I plan on selling (Gt Aggressor's Pro) no buyers in over nine months, had to slowly upgrade the bike the most recent upgrade was getting a matching tubeless wheels, and even asked Berm Peak for advice heard nothing from them. Have encountered buyers who either non-responsive or no-shows in Orange County CA for $700 until 9/5, and it's disrespectful of them wasting my time trying to make a living while they think it's funny. Definitely am liking this video

I think a longer travel bike would be good for you. More travel doesn't mean it climbs worse. I rented a Santa Cruz 5010 (140/130mm f/r) in Sedona and my brother rented a Trek Remedy 8 (160/150mm f/r), and the Remedy climbed way better, and also descended way better. My brother liked it so much he bought his own Remedy. Plus another advantage is that it's big enough for Whistler. I can't use my 120mm downcountry bike at whistler, and it wouldn't make much sense for me to use my 180/170mm f/r eBike there either, I'd have to rent a DH bike.

I think it would be good for you to check out the Trek Fuel bikes (140/130mm f/r), since you like 29ers. Or even a Slash (170/170mm), I've heard great things about them.
