Here is why the Goblet Squat is an inadequate choice for Hypertrophy training.

In other words, why it’s 💩

You know this guy doesn’t front squat because it makes him uncomfortable and these are all his justifications for avoiding the discomfort.

As soon as people start talking about good/bad exercises I switch off (btw I’m not saying bad exercises don’t exist). People that know, know.

No, it's *the* shit. Goblets don't load your spine the way back squats do. As to stabilization, if you can't get stability in a goblet squat, you have some issues you need to train. It's especially good post-50 because a spinal injury from a failed back squat could put you in a wheelchair for life.

Any kind of squats with weight helps your legs to grow. Brain does not care as long as your are lifting more than what you did before. Goblet squats keep your back posture far better.

There are just too many injury complications with back squats for anyone with back, knee, or shoulder conditions. I'll hit the Smith a bit, though it's awkward, but the Goblets don't load my back, which is nice if you have any disc issues.

This guy talks shit about goblet squats, then proceeds to show dudes with super jacked quads doing them. Come on bro. All exercises have their place, and goblet squats are great for beginners, people with compromised spines, or limited equipment.

The load in the spine is less with goblet squats, helping people with more sensitive backs and back injuries. It’s not a bad exercise; you just don’t see the need in it

Anterior loaded squats teaches you to actually stay upright in a squat, isn’t that more beneficial for hypertrophy ?

For knee health is one of the best squats out there. Besides, lumbar muscles are not stressed as much.

All you are doing is bad mouthing an amazing exercise and showing all the ones that are literally in the gym and have caused many people to have injuries and find alternative methods of squating. Your legs look amazing im not questioning your results or your knowledge but you should know that not everything that works for you will work for others. Also you should know that long lifting with squats squashes the spine causing long term problems regardless of how safe you lift. Alternative methods can be used and rotated.

Never take advice from a guy that locks his knees… never…. Just never.

You didn’t mention that it places much less stress on the lumbar spine compared to that of a back squat or even a leg press.

As long as gravity works, the weight will put stress on your legs. Moreover, you can shoot for higher reps. Reps are more important than weights.

I just do em cause I hurt back three times once on leg press, once on smith machine, and one with barbell squats. It’s the only one that has never hurt me. 🤷🏼‍♂️. I have a abnormality in my hips so finding a good leg exercise it more difficult for me.

What if I have a herniated disc and I can't do back squats anymore ... Goblet squats are pain free. What exercises would you recommend for lower back problems if goblet squats are bad

This does not make it a bad exercise. Just because you have an opinion on which training method is better. Goblet squats are a great exercise for hypertrophy. Hate when people put out false info.

I agree but it depends on the individual goals.. Muscle mass or muscular endurance..

I mean…in this video he’s talking about strictly hypertrophic intent, and he’s not wrong, if you’re just looking for some thick quads. There are much better bangs for your buck for anterior load squatting(front squat, for example).

I’m not the biggest fan of goblet squats because I find it hard to find a challenging load that I can hold, but I wouldn’t call it a bad exercise per se. I favor front squats because the Army jacked up my back and that spinal compression hurts like a mf.😅

All that being said, my knees hurt just watching this.
