WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas. The Atheist Community of Austin is dedicated to promoting atheism, critical thinking, secular humanism, and the separation of religion and government.

We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

That's the problem, Believer, most Theists tends to look at Atheists in terms of a religion, which is why they can't figure out where they stand. But Atheism isn't a religion, it's not an ideology, there are not scriptures. You are just not convinced that any gods exists. That is all. Whatever else an Atheist does or doesn't believe in is completely seperate.

Everybody knows atheists are super popular. I love lying about being an atheist. I put on my "There is no God" t-shirt and strut around town. Everybody cheers. I pass by a cute girl, smile and tip my fedora, and say "M'lady." She blushes and fans herself, and coyly remarks "Your girlfriend is a real lucky woman." And I'm like: "YEAH." Later that day, I'm at a job interview. One of the questions is about my greatest weakness. I say it's my inability to relate with religious beliefs, as I'm too rational. Hired on the spot. Life's going so well, I think I might run for mayor.

When I was a Mormon as a teenager, it was not too popular to be a Mormon where I lived. So, while I didn't hide being a Mormon, I didn't tell people I was a Mormon. Today. I'm an atheist.

I, too, am in Washington state. The caller demonstrates how a predominantly liberal, secular, state can still have ignorant theists. In both Washington & Oregon there are places that would fit in perfectly in the Bible Belt.

It always comes down to bigotry. They hold onto their religion with such a death grip not because it makes them happy, or better people, but for who they can hate being justified by their religion.
