I don't like how alot of stables offer trail rides but they don't do any basic training beforehand. You just show up and they put you on a horse and tell you to hold on. I think they should do a 20-30 minute basics routine. Heels down, your hands sit here and you hold the reigns like this, you mount and dismount like this, you stop like this and not like this (if your horse bolts), posture in the saddle, don't let your horse snack or wander off, this is how you get your horse to walk on, etc. Just a few basic beginner things. You mostly just walk on trail rides in the US so you really wouldn't have to cover much but it scares me to be on a trail with first timers and see a kid screaming because the group is leaving them because their horse has the saddle shifted forward, head down eating grass. Or someone's horse bolts and they have no idea what to do.

Very helpful information keeping rider and horse safe in different environments something we may not always be cognizant of . It’s great to practice in a controlled setting increases the likelihood of remaining safe .
