What is PoE? Power over Ethernet Explained | Black Box®

There are a lot of misconceptions and myths surrounding Power over Ethernet (PoE). Learn what PoE is - and is not - and clarify how it can be an important part of your network.

PoE is standard for sending data and power over Ethernet cable to low-wattage devices, such as cameras, wireless access points, VoIP phones, and more. The greatest benefit PoE gives you is the ability to power devices in remote, hard-to-reach, and non-powered locations—without worrying about the cost or hassle of running new AC power lines. And it's a lot easier to install an Ethernet line than electrical wiring.

The presenter makes a wrong implication at minute 1:15.  PoE doesn't use 60Hz AC.   It's DC.

The music reminds me of a Front Mission load out screen.

Hi nice video, but I have a question, It's true that AC Power operates in 60Hz while data operates in higher frequencies but, PoE is not just DC Power?? All the web pages that I have visited sell PoE products with DC output Voltage. Big confusion here!

I have 24 awg wire with 4 strands and not cat 5 going to my future AP location. Can I punch this wire into a keystone to power the AP with the power injector?

hello, thanks for your video. I've got a question, I'm installing 24 cameras on a nonPOE switch so I'm planning on using cat6 and a poe injector midspan, for that, I need to use a power supply but I don´t know which one to chose. the cameras are dc 12v and they consume 600watts. the distances are around the 260 and 290 ft. could you give me some advises?

Wy is all the connectors on a Switch use shielded contacts?

I think that you have to use a Shielded plug to this unit?
Ore can you use a Cat5 and Cat5E UTP to the product today?
And if you use a copper cabel you have to use a product for the Ligtning problems.

I hope all users today have a Fiber cable!
This is what we have to use if the connectors will work in the future.
And the SPEED with fiber is the future!

I was curious why an ethernet cable is #24.  Can I use a #18 4 twisted pair (individually and overall shielded) cable and still get away without any communication issues?

This video is technically incorrect. Confusing power sent as being AC, which is not, is DC.
