What Is a PoE Switch (Power over Ethernet) and How Can It Make Your IP Camera Life Easier?

Power over Ethernet (PoE) can make your life way easier when you're setting up IP security cameras. In this video, we walk you through everything you need to know about PoE and about IPCamPower, a brand of unmanaged switches designed specifically for IP security cameras.

It's 2020. There's no reason why you should still be running two cables to your IP security cameras. With Power over Ethernet, you can get your camera up and running in no time with one simple Ethernet cable. Connect your camera to power and to your network in one fell swoop.

PoE does have its limitations, however. You can only lay cable runs up to 300'. But our line of PoE products, IPCamPower, lets you go beyond these limitations in two ways.

1. You can purchase a PoE switch that has an "extended mode," allowing you to lay cables up to 800'.

2. You can purchase a simple extender or two, allowing you to take your cable runs to 600 or even 900 feet.

Check out this video to learn more about IPCamPower, then check out our website to learn more!

I came here to learn the difference between a PoE injector and a PoE switch and Tyler answered that question for me at 3:36 . 6:58 is important to! Especially if you're powering a power hungry motorized PTZ dome. I love how clearly Tyler explains everything!

Wow. This is how you make a video that convinces people to shop with you. I was planning on buying all my camera equipment on Amazon but I would much rather buy from somebody like this.

@11:52 Mbps = megabits* per second, which is commonly how we measure data transfer rates. A bit or binary digit is a single unit 1 or 0; a byte is eight bits. Thus, a megabit is about one million bits, but a megabyte is eight million bits.

At any rate, this was another great explainer video from your channel. Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks for the POE video. I just ran Ethernet cables in my old house. I have 4 cameras that are all powered by plugging into 110 volt and then the ethernet cable. I probably will update to POE after seeing this video. It increases the locations on the house that a camera can be installed.

Best video yet, the mystery of poe switches and ip cameras has been made clear, thanks man for that .I have an ip camera that has a 12 volt power in, but like you mentioned there's no need for that when using RJ 45 connection connected to a POE switch ?

Hikarius delivery on this video! JUST subscribed. I haven't bought a system in 10 years, and am looking to buy a nice clean system to have some cameras in my new home in the mountains. Definitely want to keep it MUCH cleaner than my old system (bnc cameras, ALOT of cabling for the 8 cameras I had)!) so POE cameras seem to be what I will get - one cable to power it and send feeds... MUCH cleaner / easier to make it look good.
