We all want that perfect looking backswing that makes us look like we just came straight from the tour!

Well how the hands move from set up to top of backswing are key to that expert looking backswing, this is known as 'hand path' and in this video Chris Ryan shows you a few checkpoints that you can use during practice to ensure your backswing is not holding yo and your game back.

Hi Chris, you are without doubt the best YouTube golf coach. I thought I’d advise you that the slow motion clips really help me to see the movement much better. What I noticed in the very last clip is how much movement there was in your hands and wrists from just about hitting the ball and shortly after. At normal speed I did not notice this. This is one area I’m struggling with and that is getting the club to get square at impact. Would love you to do another video showing how you get the club to get square at impact in super slow motion clip set to as many frames per second your device can do. Thanks!

Watched many of your videos and you by far have explain the golf swing better than any You Tuber out there. Glad I found your channel.

Once again, Chris, you've done it! For the past couple of rounds, I was not getting a full shoulder turn nor accelerating through the ball. This caused me to hit slices and fade shots. Went back to the Range before my round today, worked on the tips you gave and now I'm driving the ball back down the fairways more consistent. As a matter of fact, I use an app called 18 Birdies and my targets were to hit 8 out of 18 Fairways throughout my round. I found 9 out of 18, still lots of work to do but definitely back on track!! Cheers!!

Thank you for the lesson, I always try to understand this sequence, as i turning my shoulders first in the downswing and not my arms first.

The tip with the hands behind the trail heel is excellent. I went to play to try it and it worked. Thanks!

Nice video again. I love that you always hit the ball at the end of each video. 👍

The old shake with your left hand 🤚 the second most important thing after learning how to grip the club... I subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more quality videos like this!

Very clear explanation of hands & club path movement in the backswing, thanks. One thing I have noticed often in your videos is where your club head finishes at the very top of your backswing, it’s appears to “gravitate “ more towards your right ear or the target line, yet I see other golf instruction show the club head should go more over your right shoulder, which is correct or which is more preferred?

Good video. An area I can struggle with. Visual markers are helpful reminders 👍🏻

Great video Chris! This is helpful for my swing because I tend to get disconnected in my takeaway. Someone once told me to make sure my left shoulder gets under my chin in the backswing. I think this video you made on hand path reinforces and relates to left shoulder under the chin. I will try this out thank you!

Nice tutorial there. Thanks. Are there any differences in the grip between irons and driver. I follow your set up for grip on irons and it solved my iron slice but for driver it doesn’t seem to translate as well. Any thoughts?

Great video, Chris. I was wondering whether you'd be able to do a video about what to do with your leading leg on the followthrough? Basically my leg is still fairly bent after I've hit the ball, which makes it difficult to balance after impact. In this video your leading leg looks very straight. I have a clip I can DM - any help would be brilliant!

Chris - another great video. Have you discussed the straight left arm and I've just missed it?

Great video. Just played 18 holes with the principles of this video in mind, i.e. Make sure there is no 'disconnect' between body and arms, and that I had good 'depth' as you call it. Result... 10 fairways hit with driver and extra distance because I'm hitting with a draw. Thanks for your very straightforward tuition.

Thanks again for this tip!! I have developed an inside out swing over the years but, I find I don’t have enough body rotation. Being older the limits of flexibility do restrict quality rotation. Club head speed is mid to low 80’s and distance with my Epic Driver (12 degree) ranges between 200-220 yards. Any suggestions for older players with flexibility issues?? Thanks in advance. “Cheers” from New Hampshire, USA.

If you look at Els, Price, Faldo they had early wrist and forearm rotation. So there are more one way getting to the top of the backswing. Rahm is very short and lot or forearm rotation.

Useful checkpoints for me and my occasionally confused mind to focus on. Perhaps some help on the shape of the left wrist at the top of the backswing could come next? Regards.
