JJ made adjustments and used his timeouts AT THE RIGHT TIME. Ham would legit just stand there and watch the chaos unfold

Gil: "I'm gonna listen to you until it don't make sense"
Coach: "Pass the ball"
Gil: "Woah?"
😂😂😂

Thing is, JJ had a really good and long career as a player with dedication in his craft, conditioning and smarts. He had no physicall advantage to lean on. And he has great communication skills which is great to deal with the media and to rally the team to a common goal

I think JJ's best qualities are his ability to connect with people and his openness to their ideas and philosophies. His podcasts, his time as an analyst proves his dedication to the game and he has shown himself to be someone that adapts with the times. He also wants players to represent themselves on the court, even if the system seems deliberate, he gives them room to express themselves freely.

The past 2 years of Darvin Ham makes JJ redick look like Phil Jackson in just one game

"Im going to listen to you until you don't make sense" -- great bar. I take the same approach at my job -- i have expertise that my manager doesn't possess, so you just listen to their intent, interpret it, then come up with your own plan. B/c end of the day, the results matter not the specifics.

Gil looking at player stats and making a determination if they going to be a good coach. MJ the greatest player ever played, couldn't identify talent as an Owner, Ewing couldn’t get an NBA head coaching job etc. We also see Pop who never played in the NBA and is considered one of the greatest coaches all time...

All I got from Gils take is. If the coaches ask you to do 10, do more! I agree with this mindset

I didn't think I'd see the day when I'd wholeheartedly agree with Nick Young 9:41

I think Kneckt celing waaay higher than AR-15. He might look like the same dude, but he's like a stronger, more athletic version

No Gil. You're discounting the fact that people learn things that can help other players that may not have been a part of their game. I was a PG, and I was able to help bigs learn how to post up, seal defenders, etc., even though it wasn't what I was asked to do as a player.

What you did was discount the value and purpose in your trainer having you shoot 3 in each spot then moving to another spot. Some training is to create a rhythm. Other training is to break the rhythm so they can build new habits once the rhythm is broken.

I love Gil’s approach to training. Don’t train to do it right. Train until you can’t do it wrong.

Honestly, gil is legitimately insanely insightful. Listening to him and jj on their podcasts were the best of both worlds. One analytical and conscious, the other instinctive and humanly subconscious. Gil understands the human aspect so much, I don't think he has the ability to even explain it.

JJ did all the correct things as a coach in one game that Darvin couldn’t do it for 2 years.

Never forget that LeBron James averaged 37 ppg against McCants throughout his career
