In this video, I will show you how to used the excel DAYS() formula to count the number of days between two dates from today

Do you ever need to know how many days are between two dates? If so, you can use the DAYS() function in Excel to make the calculation of days between dates easy. By entering the two dates into a worksheet cell and then using the DAYS() function, you can return the number of days between those dates. The DAYS() function can be useful for calculations such as determining how long it will take for a project to be completed or how long ago an event occurred. Let’s look at how to use this function as I walk you through an example.

Hi Barbara. Great tip to use the DAYS() function. Since dates are serial numbers, usually I just subtract the end_date from the start_date or in your example it would be =C2-TODAY(). Using DAYS() maybe makes it a little more clear for a user that does not understand the serial nature of EXCEL dates. Thanks for sharing! Thumbs up!!

Hi. It's funny you posted this. Just last week I wanted to know how many days it was until a deadline date. I didn't know about the DAY function. So all I did was have a cell, say C5. It has the deadline date of Feb 28, 2022. The format of this cell is MM/DD/YYYY. Then in cell D5 I have a simple formula: =C5-TODAY(). The format of cell D5 is Number, no decimal points. The result in cell D5 shows 20. That is 20 days until the deadline. And like you, I use TODAY to make it dynamic. But thanks for posting this about DAYS. I never knew about this function.

Great! it is practically used for me to count number of days left before Expiry Date at my Pharmacy. Is there any specific meaning for "()"?

If both of your dates are not referenced in a cell, you can use =DATE(YYYY, MM, DD)-DATE(YYYY, MM, DD) for example if you want to calculate the number of days between today and a date in the past you can use =TODAY()-DATE(YYYY, MM, DD)
