I'm especially happy that you pointed out the fact on how smart Vegito actually is. People would always try to downplay him by comparing the Buuhan fight with the Janemba one, saying that Vegito was goofing around while Gogeta straight went for the kill. It's as if people ignored the whole plot of him trying to free everyone that Buu had absorbed, it's absolutely breathtaking xD

If they wanted to amp fusion to potaro level, they could introduce they idea that the fusion is stronger the stronger the bond between the 2 is. This would have a cool side effect of making Gotenks somewhat relevant again as well. just a thought, though.

On the Gogeta topic, I'd say his edge is in being a great analyst in the fight as he uses different techniques and strats to destroy Broly. First physically, then spiritually through the use of the Soul Punisher/Stardust Breaker, and finally weakening Broly by anatomy. Broly literally got the his sense beat back into him by Gogeta before he went for the killing shot. Of course, courtesy of Geekdom for covering it in-depth. Feel like Seth went too hard on Gogeta so I gotta do my boy right lol.

Imagine if a post- Granola Vegito could quickly bounce between TUI and UE to abuse the strengths of each form. Use UI to dodge, go UE when he's gonna be hit to amp up his power, go UI for a quick counter attack and go UE to land the hit and deal massive damage. Basically use UI for speed and then UE for power. That'd be sick to watch.

As much as I love Vegito, and as much as I personally think you're right about how powerful he *should* be, we all know that come the end of the day they're gonna make beerus and whis stronger than you think. They're goal posts, simple as that. So tbh, no, I don't think they've surpassed him by any means, and it's simply because the author will say so

I personally like gogeta just a bit more because I always thought he had cooler moves in the games like raging blast and such(other than the “I’ll just use my feet” combo vegito gets because of the bonus disrespect points) and I liked gogetas design more as a kid.
