elementary OS is NOT a mac OS clone, here's why !

So, I often hear "elementary OS is just a ripoff of Mac OS X", "they copied from Apple", and such other criticism. While there are a lot of similarities in the approach to design, desktop behaviour, look and feel, elementary OS has its own way of doing things, such as removing menu bars, using its own windows control layouts, offering more freedom and choice, and a lot of other things that set it apart from OS X.

Let's take a tour of the similarities and the differences !

Here's my take: The elementary OS team looked at MacOS and fixed everything in their product

People act like Mac OS hasn't borrowed ideas from Linux lol

4:04 that is not true, on macOS it is also possible to install apps outside of the App Store.

Elementary OS is very lightweight and works well in old and weaker hardware.

By saying that it's a Mac OS clone, they aren't saying that it's the same OS, but that it looks super similar. And that isn't even a criticism. In fact, people WANT that.

And of course, people realize that some things are different, but that doesn't mean that it's not a Mac OS clone of Linux, nor is that a bad thing.

And the "clone" thing is based off of the looks, not the way it actually works.

I use and actually like Mac OS (if only the hardware was cheaper...).

KDE is the closest you can get to it, though not out of the box, you need to customize it a bit. In fact, with KDE Connect and the Plasma Integration extension in browsers, it's even better in some cases (e.g. I can play/pause Netflix, Youtube, and others just using the play/pause button on the keyboard, which isn't the case in Mac, Windows or any other DE I tried).
It even has a setting to swap the Meta (Win/Cmd) and the Ctrl keys (so you can use combinations like Cmd+C)

Compared to current OSX the style is a bit different, but compared to OS X that came on the pre unibody macs it’s almost identical.

Actually on elementary OS you can install a feature that gives you the same {max, min, close} (green, yellow, red) feature from macOS.

You can't do any narration or voice synthesis auto read? It would really have helped the mouse flailing.

I just dislike that apps in the elementary App Store are not broadly available for other distros :/ It almost feels like a vendor lock-in

My monitor randomly shuts off after a few minutes, computer stops sending signal, (because monitor says "No Signal"), loving mouse or pressing keys doesn't help, nor does unplugging cdmi, using a different port. Any ideas? Mobo is Aoris 390, chip intel 9700k, 32GB DDR4 RAM.

Using Nvidia 1060 6GB and official drivers 430. Should I use the other diver available (390)? And what's the difference?

As a Mac user myself, I’ve got more respect for those niche Linux desktops that copy the NextStep environment, from before that environment got transformed to become Mac OS X. If you’re going to copy something, copy some abandonware!

at the 5:00 minute mark, how did you manage to customize your desktop like that? I love it it looks really clean. Looks exactly like the Mac OS which is what i want in my system. Do you have any resources on where I can achieve that same look? Im running elementary OS as well.

Elementary OS:
Outside, macOS clone
Inside, Ubuntu clone

It's not a "Mac ripoff". It's a Gnome ripoff

Hello friend, congratulations on the channel: D. I have been using ElementaryOS for a couple of months, but I have a problem with KdenLive: videos take a long time to render, they take twice as long as Linux Mint. Do you know a way to optimize this?

Elementary is providing a familiar workflow for users switching from mac, same as mine does for windows users

Ummm.. "In OSX (sorry, I'm an old timer) you can only install apps through the store.."

Really? I think you're confused with iOS. MacOS is a real computer and you are largely free to install software from wherever you want.

Otherwise very nice run down. 👍

I think it is just a sign of the times that someone has come out with a version of Linux to make switchers from OS X feel more at home and does not assume you are switching from Windows. I think in some ways Elementary operates more like older versions of OS 10 and features some things old Mac users appreciate. I used to use a Mac and I was not crazy about alot of the charges that happened after 10.7 I think it also delivers on what some of use where hoping for when Apple had first talked about OS X being based on Freebsd and the Darwin project and delivers on promises Cupertino forgot about. Overall it is nice to see distros that will allow both Windows and Mac users to switch and hit the ground running with minimal learning curves.

What gtk theme is that? I've got a couple that add transparency to my wingpanel but when i full screen doesn't go full black like i want it too. The one you are using seems to not affect that.
