Learn my favorite way to rig baits for shore-based shark fishing! This rig has helped me increase my hookup rate and land loads of great sharks.

I'm not claiming this is the best way or the only way. It's just my way, and it works really, really well.

Below is a link to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission page for their shore-based shark fishing course (not required in Texas but an amazing resource none the less)

Here is a link to NOAA's page on shark conservation.

I like your idea of not using zip ties. No more plastics in the ocean.

Can confirm this technique is very effective, used this method of rigging my baits and within the hour had multiple hookups and got my biggest reel spooled

Cotton thread? Use bait elastic!! I haven’t seen one American fisherman use it but in the uk we don’t leave without it. It’s great.

A solid way to rig, my way is similar. Ill only skin hook the fish, then use the cotton string to orient the hook eye and be the real structure that holds the rig together; i kinda come up from the bottom, go through the eye of the hook, double back, then tie off. It's hard to explain in text, but it gives a perfectly oriented hook with 95%+ of the hook gap unobstructed.

Nice! Thanks for the shark bait tutorial.

I like to do something similar when gar fishing. But I’ll add a treble hook out the mouth of the bait as well for better hook-ups.

Keep up the good work!

Nice Black Tip! All that a can manage out of the surf are some pretty nice Leopard Shark and some Sooth Grey Hounds. A few friends of mine were fortunate enough to catch some Soup fin and Seven Gills out of the kelp line. Also some Thresher and Makos trolling mackerel.

Hope to see you make some ocean Kayak fishing videos 👍🏼

You dont need to go out that far for little sharks, im guessing that that one was 3ish feet, i have caght 5 to 6 foor sharks during the day, in the 2nd and 3erd gut, but sharks that size cruise in the 2nd and 3erd gut all the time. If you where going for 9 plus feet you generally need to be out that far. But biggins cruis the 3erd sometimes, once i hooked a 10 foot tiger in the 3erd gut, that was at padre island national seashore though.
