SOLVED: Windows 10 Installation Has Failed - Very Simple Fix (2022)

I recently had to re-install windows 10 on one of my machines. Usually it’s a pretty straight-forward procedure, but sometimes, for some reason, it’s possible that while trying to install windows 10 you are going to get an error message telling you that “the installation has failed”. And that’s exactly what happened to me. No matter what I did, I kept getting the same error.

Trying to figure out what was going on, I have watched way too many videos on youtube, and wasted way too many hours, trying to implement all the solutions I have seen in those videos without any success. In the end, I found out there was actually a very simple fix and instead of going through all the steps like uninstalling my language packs or anti-virus software, or messing around with my system’s settings, I should have just tried this first.

So, here is the solution: Keep in mind that I am just trying to save you some time. If this doesn’t work for you, you may still go ahead and watch all those other videos after this. But If it does work, there you go, it was an easy fix.

During Windows 10 installation, you will come across this page (see video) where it says: “Change how windows setup downloads updates”. Here, I was simply clicking “next” and that was the reason why my installation was failing. So, this is how I managed to install Windows 10. On this page, click on “Change how windows setup downloads updates” and on the next page click on “Not right now”. Don’t worry, you can always download updates later. For some reason, downloading updates during installation was causing problems for me.

If you are having trouble installing windows 10, go ahead and try this before you do anything else. and do let me know, if it worked for you, in the comments section.

For all who failed to updatefrom windows 8.1 to wi ndows 10 even if you click the option not to update here is what i did after 30x failed upgrades. Download old version of windows 10 and in my case i downloaded not from microsoft a Win 10 version 1909. Windows 10 21h1 and 21h2 fail on me but the old version 1909 installed flawlessly on my hp 15 p968sa notebook.i jz download the iso and unzipped using 7zip and from the folder i run set-up as administrator and never update on the option as stated here.1 hour later my hp was running windows home edition flawlessly and from windows update it installed drivers for my laptop from videiocard to bluetooth etc. Hope this helps. Btw, i downloaded the 64bit iso windows 10 home edition. You can try the pro version and since my windows 8.1 is already activated windows 10 did not ask anymore for product key.I installed keeping all my files and apps.Windows 10 removed incompatible drivers and apps from win 8.1 but installed missing drivers through win dows update. Hope this helps .

Wonder why some people aren't getting the option to change the update settings. In my case i think it's because i'm trying to upgrade a PC running windows 8.1. I downloaded the free upgrade back in 2016, but i didn't like it at that tune, so i reverted the PC back to Windows 8. In my case the installation fails at 73%. I wanted to upgrade the PC because Microsoft support will cease from January 2023.

Now I'm realtek bluetooth driver is not ready to windows 10, needs to update but, it says drivers are upto date i tried manual update drivers too

I have tried several times to install my Windows 10 upgrade from 8.1 and it usually fails at 73%. I reran the install thinking I would try this fix but unfortunately the window “Change how windows setup downloads updates” never appeared.

Actually, I had an issue with realtek Bluetooth error before. I saw in one page to remove old realtek files from system. After I removed, it's help me to proceed. But then error shows windows 10 installation has failed. Now fixed with your solution.
