Makes sense Dooku had an unorthodox lightsaber hilt, he wasn’t your average Jedi that’s for sure.

Dooku may have been a sith but he genuinely did think what he was doing was right up until his master revealed his true motivation.

This is all the more fascinating when your learn more about what a literal legend Sir Christopher Lee truly was and how he helped design the saber based on his own experience with dueling.

Dude was an assassin, a duelist, one of the greatest actors ever seen, a knight, blood descendant of Charlemagne, and so much more than I can fit into a comment. Legendary man.

My favorite saber. Not only does it look cool, but unlike most others, it looked comfortable to grasp.

Dooku's lightsabre style was like watching a beautiful ballet. Elegant, effective, economic, exquisite.

The Jedi council did not approve of Dooku's hilt design and dueling form, as these combined were purpose-built to fight other lightsaber users. At the time, the Sith were not active and the Jedi were "peacekeepers", so this worried the council.

Little do people know that Christopher Lee actually created the design idea of the hilt to be curved in such a way to support his hands that had arthritis in real life. It all started with that….lol. RIP, Christopher Lee. ❤

While that is the story reason for the design, the real life reason for it was because the Actor (Christopher Lee) had arthritis in his hands and wrists. The curved hilt allowed him to properly work the lightsaber without hyperextending his wrists, allowing him to do more of the scenes without a stand in or CGI effects beyond the blade itself

It really shows how little the jedi had to do for the last thousand years if they were developing policy on acceptable lightsaber hilt choices

The curve also puts the blade in a closer alignment with the arm, reducing tension on the wrist during impacts from strikes and blocks.

He is one of my favorite characters and one of the best dualist in the Star Wars universe

The funny part in interviews with Christopher Lee with him stating that his mind and hands were fast but he just wasn’t as fast enough because of his legs. So if he was a couple years younger he could have done circles around anyone.

Best design of any lightsaber, for sure... and so elegant in appearance, too

Dooku’s sauce and tact was unparalleled even in the dark side. I love how Christopher Lee used his dueling experience and knowledge pour into the character. Truly was a sight to see

Honestly, I like the idea of an Empire with Dooku at the helm.

I get the idea of hilt designs imitating the wielder’s master’s (probably out of respect) but honestly it makes more sense for Jedi to design their lightsabers to best support their fighting style. Even if combat is supposed to be a last resort, “an extension of the user” ideology makes a lot more sense, same as it would for sword crafting in real life.

Arguably the most unique and elegant hilt in all of Star Wars lore. In my opinion, If his blade was the same color as Mace Windu’s, he definitely would’ve been the most talked about and beloved character, even over Darth Vader. His mastery of both the Light and Darksides, along with the fact that he could control when he had the Sith eyes were a true testament of mastering both sides of the Force. Plus he went toe to toe with Yoda, not that he could’ve out Forced Yoda.
