The Story of Elizabeth & Zechariah | The Birth of John the Baptist | Bible Stories

✍️📖Zechariah and Elizabeth were a devout, elderly couple who had no children. Zechariah, a priest, was performing his duties in the temple when the angel Gabriel appeared to him. Gabriel told Zechariah that his wife Elizabeth would bear a son, whom they should name John. Zechariah doubted this message due to their old age, and as a result, Gabriel made him mute until the prophecy was fulfilled. Elizabeth soon became pregnant, and her joy was immense. When the time came, she gave birth to a son. On the eighth day, during the circumcision ceremony, relatives expected the child to be named after his father. However, Elizabeth insisted his name would be John. Zechariah, still unable to speak, wrote on a tablet, “His name is John.” Immediately, his speech was restored, and he praised God. This miraculous event spread throughout the region, and people marveled at what the child would become.
