We have lost civics education in primary school curriculum. So we're suffering clueless and uninformed people voting for whoever they place their delusional faith in.

Who gets to choose who is capable of voting. Someone in a suit who wants to rule and not represent? I pick option 1

It comes down to proper civics education, along with a media that takes time to explain the issues and debates involving all sides of politics.

I agree 💯. I think people that have skin in the game should be voting. In my opinion this mainly means families (parents with kids) as they are the cornerstone to any successful society. Singles vote for things that are generally selfish as they don't have the maturity to understand the importance and challenges of the family structure.

Very true. Make citizenship mean something. A stake used to mean owning land, we don't necessarily need the same requirement but definitely a system in which the voters can demonstrate their "interest" somehow.

There should be a quiz to qualify to vote.

I'd like everyone to vote but only those over 25yrs will elect representatives.
Votes from say 16-24 will be used to inform policies.

Make voting dependent on paying taxes. Each person get 1 vote, regardless of how much they pay in income tax. Then for each $10, 000 (or some other amount), each tax payer gets an additional vote. That way those who contribute more have the more influence.

It’s the electoral vote that matters sir . Because they tell & vote the popular. If those guy lie and cheat because they get paid off. That is what matters.

This is a very difficult question. Here in Canada, there are a lot of morons who vote, and a lot of single issue voters who have the power to influence without accepting the responsibility. Perhaps some sort of means test? Prove that you know the issues, you know the candidates and their positions on the issues, in order to be awarded a voter card to use on Election Day?

Australian system proves this man's point "vote for someone, anyone, even if there is nobody you want or get a fine and lose everything if you refuse to pay"

That is exactly why I don’t vote in the last election. That and choosing the least of the two evils is still choosing evil

When people tell you who they are, listen!
He is saying that not everyone is equal and those bellow him should stay in thier place and listen to their betters. Those bellow him should know thier place.

The only people who complain about Australia's compulsory voting system are the conservative right. Compulsory voting ensures that on social issues, there is a limit to the right wing bigotry that can be pushed.

Without compulsory voting, large parts of the Australian community would face the poverty and extinction that is being attempted in the US.

We would not have a social safety net, we would not have basic workers rights, we would not have a coast to coast ban on anti-sodomy laws, and we would not have universal reproductive rights.

The only groups who want to remove compulsory voting in Aus, are those that have a superstitious hatred against those who vote to enable their basic human rights.
