The Tabata study was specifically structured for the exercise to be done at 100% effort/speed and only looked at the increase of aerobic capacity (VO2 max) and anaerobic capacity (ability to sustain high intensity exercises). It was not studying overall strength increases.

So if you're doing pushups, you do them as fast as you can, not at whatever pace you want. If you're not doing it at near max effort, you're less likely to see the benefits seen in the study.

Used this technique for body weight circuits. 1 min per exercise 4-6 exercises and then a 1 minute break before another round. Great HIIT training!

Works real quick to warm your body up in arctic conditions, too. Push ups and / or squats. Don't just stand there feeling sorry for yourself because it's freezing, get the body pumping. Wakes the brain up as well!

The Tabata interval run smoke the dog crap out of me. I won't do that again until weeks out from my next ACFT.

This just sounds like a HIIT workout. Effective for biking and casual runners too

I use them for kettlebell swings, burpees, and the concept 2 rower. Once I found out that essentially 4 rounds of Tabatas was equivalent to 60 minutes of cardio, I was sold.

When I’m pressed for time I’ll knock out Tabata pushups, then I’ll knock out Tabata air squats. It’s just 8 minutes, but it’s full body and I’m crushed at the end.

I would do these with my Jiu Jitsu Professor when working on wrestling drills. We would use these as warm ups, especially before a competition. He would always say “this is where you get your first win”.

This is more of a cardio / endurance style but push ups is pretty cool I think this would be helpful for increasing push up endurance and max reps for like special forces selections and stiff

I super set pushups and pull-ups with every muscle group I train. Including legs.

Yall should try my method. However many pushups you do straight(lets say 20), then you have to countdown backwards the same amount. Its fun, it burns, but it works!
