How to Move Your VirtualBox VM to an External Drive

This tutorial is on a Mac, but the steps are similar on Windows. If you are running out of storage space on your computer but need to use a virtual machine(s) then this is the video for you! It is very simple to move you VM's disk image file to external storage. This can be done easily before you create your machine or you can move an existing machine! This video may seem on the long side, but I wanted to make sure I explained the process well! If you have any issues or questions, be sure to leave them in the comments down below!

Most detailed explanatory video I've seen so far.
You should keep creating videos, you have good talent.

Also let's not forget the Export Appliance feature, which allows you to package up the VM and all its necessary files into one portable file. You'd primarily want to use this for backup purposes when maybe getting a new disk drive rather than moving a VM in use on your current storage configuration.

Very helpful video! I was thinking to install Ubuntu Linux but on a flash drive for the storage use, do u think it will work good enough running straight from a flash drive and lets say 2gb of RAM?

Hi, thanks for the video. Really helpful. Does it matter how the thumb drive is formatted? (ExFat, Mac OS formats etc)? I’m asking because I have a 4Tb external drive partitioned to 2 different formats.

Is there a way to image the XP VDI/VHD onto an external drive such that it boots/runs from another laptop via USB/SATA cable?

I love this video so much, however, I have a question: my external hard drive contains over 1 TB of space, if I choose to store my VM there am I able to set the size to over 300 GiGs, etc?
