In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

forgot to say: Thank you for the video!

I think it's great that the hacker-spaces get som PR now. Most people imagine some geeks sitting around in a dark room, screwing on their PCs, or writing some code no one really needs. Like some people believe that women/girls would never be interested in going there.

Also a lot of people probably wouldn't have guessed that there is one founded by a woman.

this talk tramples on so many false stereotypes, i just have to love it.
also very inspirational

I was following the work of Safecast after the nuclear meltdowns in Japan. The effort was incredibly critical. People told me again and again that they didn't believe any numbers that came from industry or the government. This wasn't because they had an empirical basis to say those numbers were wrong, it was because they felt that industry and its regulator lied in the past (and it did). At the same time, international media was extremely unhelpful. The work of Safecast was quite important

collaboration truly will be the way of the future.

Luckily there seems to be a shift in economy, where people realize that making products for the sake of a good product, instead of getting rich quick, leads to far better results for everyone. Most people still stubbornly resist to accept that, but the overall trend is very positive.

What she doesn't say, is that it can cost 50 to 150 bucks a month to be "part" of that particular community. D
