We did this in ecology in college. Our professor was old school; so we used trigonometry to calculate the height of a tree 🌳 Another professor told us there's a device that shoots two lasers, you aim one for the base of the tree and the other at tbe top. The device tells you the distance btween the two lasers.

That’s a stupid way to measure a tree cause you need two people. Just use any stick the length of your arm hold it at a 90 degree angle and that’s your height
