Something I learned when dressing in full punk:
1. Little kids and old people stare a lot. Most of them love it when you smile and wave because they aren’t judging you, they’re just curious.
2. Laughing along when other people makes jokes (singing an emo song, acting all broody, saying “omg it’s an emo!”, etc. not the harmful jokes) can easily make someone’s day. They don’t always realize they’re bullying, they just think it’s fun and are usually just trying to make a joke.
3. When someone’s bullying you (making sh jokes at you, being rude, no dad jokes, unfairly judging you, etc.) give them a look that conveys that their being awkward or weird and then straight up ignore them. A look of confusion should work, and only to your friends/self. Eventually they’ll either feel embarrassed or get bored. Reactions are their goal.
4. Be kind! Being kind to strangers even if they seem judgmental or rude at times can change their perspective of scene, emo, punk, grunge, goth, and other styles that are similar to those. A lot of people have an idea that we’re all rude, the bad kind of rebellious, and dangers to society. A simple smile or compliment to a stranger can change their view even just a little!

i was wearing a tail in the park and two girls were recording me, they barked so i called them furries and the said they would call the police for me “disturbing them” i said if you don’t want to see me don’t record me and i called the police on them for recording

i like the smile and wave technique cause one time this older lady was recording me in a VERY THOUGHT OUT scene outfit. she later came up to me and apologised for recording without me knowing but said “i thought you looked really cute and my grandson is very interested in dark clothes”

In my TA class there was this girl who sat in front of me and would always take snaps with half her face and my fully shown in the back. I got so tired of it because I’ve had bad experiences with being online with out permissions that I flipped the camera off and smirked. She deleted the snap and panicked, never doing it again. None of her friends did either. Hooray! 😍

In my state in the US, we are called a "one party" state. This means in my state, only one party has to give permission in order to be able to legally record (and it can be the person holding the camera.)

However, in a two party state, you have a right not to be recorded against your will. So, if you determine you live in a two party state, #4 - Confront can also be asking the business owner to make them leave or stop, or flagging an enforcer to make them cease.

These terms only apply to the United States, so if you live elsewhere, feel free to use this comment to clarify what these legalities are like in your area for other people

I’m so socially awkward that I would just end up waving to try and seem more confident. People record me in school (idk why I don’t dress alt in school) so I just wave at them so they know that I know what they’re doing 😂
