The problem with this story is that it is not true. Wilhelm II didn't abdicate on the 9th. He did it only weeks later in exile in the Netherlands. However, on the 9th of November, the German Chancellor, Max von Baden, announced the abdication without Wilhelms consent. Later in the day, Wilhelm went into exile.

There were loyal General's who wanted to go to Berlin and restore order but Hindenburg at this time had become a defeatist and would not allow them in to speak with the Kaiser
