They change/update a few standard features and then up the price. You’re really paying for all the glitzy marketing and sales pitch. The product itself is basically the same as the previous one.

Pretty sure the prices didn’t change and that Camera Control, the A18 and spatial photos are new, there’s also the ability to take macro photos and videos, as well as spatial videos and there’s the action button. A lot has come to the base model iPhone 16.

This is going to be a long fact check.

*1. “They only changed one thing”*
This is false. As you can probably see and count, those were at least 5 things, not including all the camera changes, extra buttons, battery increases, performance boosts, durability increases, faster 5G speeds, and more.

*2. “This AI functionality [Apple Intelligence] isn’t going to be available by the time the phone [iPhone 16] is released”*
True and false. It’s not going to be publicly released, but betas for Apple Intelligence have already been available since late summer and iPhone 16-specific betas have been released yesterday (September 11, 2024) as of writing this comment. It’s going to be publicly released for all iPhone 16 users in October (in US English)

*3. “It’s not going to be available for at least another year if you’re outside the United States”*
This is false. It’s rolling out globally at about the same time, depending on language. US English is coming in October; British, South African, Canadian and Australian English versions are coming in December. Chinese next year. Languages are the limitations; geographically, it’s coming everywhere, exception being the European Union and China.

*4. “So you have last year’s iPhone and it’s more expensive”*
This is false. See point 1 for why it’s not last year’s phone. And it’s priced identically as last year.
