The EU is fighting the wrong battle here - they should be pushing for "Right to Repair" - that would not single out just Apple and would be far more beneficial to all of us.

To all the people mad about side loading you don't need to do it. It's just an option if you choose to. So your phone should be as safe as always

I bet Apple is going to allow side loading Apps BUT if you enable it, it would remove the guaranty from your device no matter if the two years are over or not. Kinda like you would have to enable it in the settings and accepts few AGB‘s that says „I fully know that by downloading apps from anywhere else than the AppStore will remove any Support from Apple and Apple certified repair shops.“ Kinda like you can download them but don‘t expect anything from us if something broke your iPhone.

I get that Apple is anti-competitive and all that but it's Apple's device - they should get to what they want with it. If you want an open platform - go to Android. Don't force Apple into being Android. No one is forcing you to buy into Apple and there are plenty of good Android devices out there.

One issue is security and privacy. The EU can’t change app permissions to that much

Wouldn’t they consider the wireless charging that type of porch since it’s a different type of adapter? Guess I could say that but then on the other hand I guess they can’t seems like a gray area

The one good thing about Apple has always been the fact that it didn’t open up its doors to a bunch of junk apps that jammed up your phone. Ill stay with they’re app store.

Ive been wanting the USB C for a while now to be on the iphone! So i am very glad if they bring that! But they shouldnt have to open their device up to let anybody do what they want on it! The biggest reason I have an iphone is because of the privacy and security! So if they open it up like android then anybody can do, or see anything they want basiclly!

USB-C is a far superior port to lightning which has been around since Moses parted the Red Sea, whilst I don’t agree it should have been forced by people who don’t even have a clue what the internet is Apple has also been dragging the chain on the matter.

As for side loading, if there are checks put in place somehow by Apple to ensure that the security and privacy side of things is still complied with it wouldn’t be as much of an issue since some companies will see this as being able to get their sticky fingers on people data that they don’t need but want.

As far as I’m concerned I don’t care if Apple loses their 15-30% cut which is quite high to be fair but I don’t want it at the cost of my privacy and security. If you want to do as you please get an Android

This is a non story really. personally, if it's not in the app store, I won't be downloading it. I'm happy with Apple Wallet, and my iPhone will continue to only host apple checked and approved apps from heir app store. only geeks who want to side load apps will care about this and use it. The vast majority will just carry on using what they use now. Look at google search, who uses the others, a tiny percentage.

Sideloading is nice - you can have whatever apps you want. I'd love it.

I switched to android years ago....a good antivirus software has protected my phones from whatever lurks in the corners of the Internet.
I resent a company telling me that THEY know what is best for me.
They have sort of become like drug dealers...."buy from me or pay the price"

im okay with the USB C port, and not really all in for side loading. I just hope apple finds a way to keep their customers security and privacy.

Apple should keep doing the whole closed OS eco system by adding a safety feature making a warning if you install apps outside the appstore it would be a safety hazard and could void your warranty. kinda like how Mac OS has it.
