SM64 Beta | Weird noise / song

I was recently looking more into the SM64 betas for some reason and found two clips of a weird noise when entering the "Bowser hallway". The two of them sound like they start differently which is weird, but the full, or at least I think the full, noise can be heard in the second one

Finally found out what that strange sound from B3313 is. I've been wondering what that was for so long.

That sound is a sound called tricked, i checked the Game files and i found that sound

I think its supposed to be Peach making the noise, basically like hearing Mario at the bottom of the well in Luigi's Mansion.

It seems like its being emitted by the door, notice how in the second clip the sound loops & gets quieter as mario walks away from the door

I have heard SOMEWHERE (but cannot find it again) that this has something to do with the sliding door sound effect possibly "taking over" the castle music for a brief moment as the instrument playing the song. Maybe I might be remembering wrong too.

I think it plays that odd sound because it might of been intended to scare the player as they approach Bowser.

Thats weird that no one in the video questioned that sound. It must have been intended and it was Peach screaming for help. Thats actually kinda creepy because you don't hear anyones voice in the castle other than Mario's.

It's pretty obvious this is supposed to be Peach crying out for help. First of all, according to people in the comments, the original sample is of a woman screaming, which makes sense given how that's what it sounds like, just sped up. Secondly, the audio does _not_ get quieter as Mario leaves the door, it gets quieter _ONLY_ when the Peach painting transforms into the Bowser painting. As for the "melody", it's not really a melody. All the "notes" are extremely offbeat and inconsistent, and after the little "8-note ditty" it just becomes a mess of random "notes" again. This can be easily explained by the fact that what's happening is that the sound is being played at random intervals and at random pitches. You can even hear it cutting itself off at times. It just happened to sound like a weirdly off-tune melody out of complete random chance.
It's pretty clear this is supposed to be some kind of trap. Peach's "voice" heard calling out, so you run towards it, only for it to be revealed that it was _Bowser the whole time!_ And then you fall into a pit. I mean, in the final game he even says "Bwa ha ha ha! You've stepped right into my trap, just as I knew you would!" when he doesn't really have much of a trap at all. I guess he still has the false floor, but having "Peach's voice" trying to lure you into the false floor actually makes that feel like a trap and not just some exotic entrance. However, I imagine they removed this because it's extremely annoying and somewhat unsettling. I do wish they'd tried to refit it to be less annoying/unsettling though, since without it the line about Bowser's trap kind of falls flat.

Maybe it's the early version of the Bowser noise. Like when you try to open a star door, and don't have enough stars,

Sounds like MIDI notes randomly playing a sample and using a lot of pitch bend.
