Where Do I Start...? [Minimalism Series]

"𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁?" I’ve had this conversations with myself on multiple occasions at the very beginning of my journey. I'm sure you have asked or are asking yourself this same question now... where do I start?

As I've grown through my journey, I'm understanding that maybe this is the wrong question to ask ourselves. Instead, we should be asking "𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁?"

Of course you're going to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start every time you look at the physical clutter in your space. I know for a fact that I did! I also never successfully did anything to change it, because I just didn't know where to start.

Then one day something hit me and I asked myself "𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗴𝗼?" In that moment I answered myself by saying "𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗡𝗢𝗪!" And that's exactly what I did. 𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱! I started to let go of everything I no longer wanted to hold on to... and the rest is history.

// I hope that this video and my story encourages & motivates you to start now. To let go of the items you no longer need, and to feel confident in process.

Greetings Mr Banks. I can't put a number on how many times I've asked myself the where do I start question. But this time it brought me to Youtube. And Youtube brought me to you. You mentioned some keywords I found very helpful in my restarted journey. "Image." "Purge." "Holding on to." "The just in case."
Lets just say that if one word alone were like a taste, or a factor, or an ingredient, it wouldn't amount to a recipe, formula, or discovery. But when words are splendidly grouped, as yours are, then I must say your message is one whose time has finally come.
Thank you, Sir.

This video plays like a spoken word poetry performance and I'm 100% here for it

We all wake up at different times in our lives. Some of us will never wake up. But life is truly a journey and for those of us who realize that and continue to learn and grow we are the enlightened ones because we recognize what value truly is.

I started with throwing 5 things a day (example: 1 shirt I haven't worn in years, 1 pair of pants that had a stain on it, 1 hair brush that I no longer use, 1 pair of ugly xmas socks). Then I moved on to throwing out all old towels and all old sheet sets...I've been throwing out 5 things a day for a loooong time and I still have too many things. My life feels easier and lighter but I have a long way to go.

I am letting go of clothes right now! Its a HUGE deal as I hang on to things Way too long. Expensive things I grew out of...things I never wore, finally going away. Thank you for your positive encouragement!

I’ve been sharing your videos with my sons to keep encouraging them. I’ve started them on this journey, but they need to see it from a guy’s perspective. Thank you!!

It’s been a while since you posted this (November 2021 now), but I want to thank you for the shift from “where” to “WHEN”… THAT hit me (helpfully) straight in my gut. Thank you for posting, thank you for insight and, quite frankly, I am also thankful for your brown face showing up in my “beginning minimalism” search results; I feel less alone. Blessings! 🌺🌺🌺

I really love this reflection on "self" the self we really are and the self we try to sell to other people. I read an interesting book about this on my journey to emotional awareness and its really an interesting concept. I wonder how we as humans get to this point of fighting with our true self. Keep up with these video! Love these

Starting as you speak. I have been trying to declutter my house for the past 3years.
Just saying that, doesn’t sound good. So by watching these videos, I then get to the doing.
Cheers..

Hey Ron! My house is decluttered big time. I'm still working on decluttering toxic people out of my life. It's an ongoing process lol. Much love and peace.

Actually I started with my workbag :) I am having shoulder pains that day and i just realize how many items are in my bag so i started decluttering it then i started my research about decluttering and came across "Minimalism" and decided to incorporate it with my life it took me a month to declutter everything and another month to adjust but it was my BEST DECISION EVER!!! :)

Just a few donation ideas to throw out there to any of yall... If you're younger and dress with the times.. The stuff that's nice think about donation to your local children's shelter (they're are teens out there with no one and nothing, they would be so grateful!) Or/and if you have any assisted living facilities/homes in your area you can see about donating to any younger adults/adults your age that are special needs and no longer living in the family home. I worked with adults with special needs for 5 years and I can tell yall, A lot of times once they hit 18 their families will send them off. They can still manage their money as well even though they no longer live with them. I can't tell you how many clients I had as a Program Coordinator who had "Legal Gaurdians" who would A) Only send the money required (ie The amount the company mandated for rent, food, utilities) and a small allowance of 15-50$ a month. This allowance is supposed to cover anything extra that they want or need. This is not only for extras like toys, treats, or trips (like bowling, going out to eat, anything like that) this money is also all they have to use for clothes, shoes, as well as their hygienic products like soap, shampoo, toothbrush!!
They can ask for extra money but it's at the discretion of their guardian and that's it!! So if you are ever feeling generous and need to rehome so.e nice items please consider doing that before deciding or dropping it off at the Goodwill or Salvation Army, where they are going to charge people (Which if they sold stuff cheap then ok but anymore they charge was too much!) to buy the stuff they got for free
