Is Death the End? - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Friends, on this Fifth Sunday of Lent, our Gospel is John’s story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Let’s face it: we are all haunted by death. No matter what we accomplish in this life, we know that it will all be swallowed up in the end. The fear of death broods over the whole of life. But does death have the final say?

My dad passed away on Nov 07, 2024. This was the sermon the father at the mass read. I love you dad. May your soul be resting in the presence of Jesus, "I am the resurrection, and the life..."

My wife and I both lost our fathers this past year. Our dear friends lost their 10-year-old tragically as well. The belief that Jesus calls them forth from the grave gives me great hope.

The funeral mass for my 93 year old mum will take place in 9 days; this powerful homily is very reassuring. Thanks Bishop!

My son, Solomon, died suddenly last July. I miss him very much. But I felt from the beginning that he did not cease to be. I am still connected to his true being through my heart, thanks be to God.
I stumbled into the Catholic Church five years ago (confirmed four years ago) after an agnostic upbringing, and much fruitful (and much unfruitful!) searching for what I can now name as God. I cannot help but feel that God was preparing me well in advance for the incredibly painful event of my son's death. Being able to pray to Mary in particular was of incalculable comfort. Thank you Bishop Barron for this beautiful homily and for your beautiful explaining of the Catholic faith. I appreciate your not "dumbing down the faith". But I most of all thank God for his mercy and infinite love. May my son be always with him. Praise Jesus.🙏🧡🌿

This is the great paradox about death. Jesus conquered death through his own death. He vanquished death at the foot of his cross n in the process, offered us eternal life. His self sacrificial, self emptying death was so infinitely efficacious that his Father raised us all up with his son. Thank u Bishop Barron. Beautiful homily. We ur the fruits of yr wisdom.

Tomorrow will be exactly 1 year and a half since my Mom’s passing. Knowing that God promises eternal life makes the difference. The pain is still there, but there is only one place to put it and it is at the cross besides Our Mother. This is such a small contribution to Christ. I am sure my Mom is smiling. Thanks Bishop Barron.

Thank you Bishop Barron. I fully felt the verse 'And Jesus wept'. My own papa passed away 10 years ago. This June will be his 10th anniversary. He was not a religious man, but he did have the sacrament of confession, eucharist and anointing of the sick on his last day. My great hope and prayer in life is to be united again with everyone I've lost, together in heaven.

Mom had been going downhill and when the end came, it broke my father's heart. Thwy had been married close to 60 years. I was with him as we made arrangements for the funeral. None of the quotes suggested spoke to him, so we asked if we could have our own words. Looking at many other sayings, Dad decided on one we see today. Their headstone reads the traditional names & dates, ending with
"TO BE CONTINUED"
That says it all.

Jesus is alive, real, loves us all and is victorious over death through the resurrection. Jesus. He alone is our salvation. Share this wonderful news with everyone!

This sermon deeply affected me. My son took an overdose of pills on Thursday and died. My heart is broken. How can anyone understand the depths of his pain that would cause him to do this. I can only pray that he now has the peace and love that he so needed in life, but we couldn't give him.

The closer I come to Jesus the less I fear death ❤ God has blessed me so much this sinner did not deserve. I pray when I meet my God I somehow made him proud of my service to Him ❤ 9:37

*When the cares of life surrounds me, I'll think of Jesus who cares for me;* who cares for ev'ry blade of grass, and for ev'ry bird that flies ... I'll think of Jesus who calmed the seas, who set the lame man leaping high; *who forgave the sinner, healed the sick and raised the dead to life again✨💖*

I always remember that God can not tell a lie. What ever He says, "is". If He says "Let there be light". There is light. If Jesus says "Lazrus come out". He comes out. Jesus proves He is God by His many deeds. When He says "This is My body". The bread at Mass becomes His body. Keeping Bishop in my prayers. God bless him and all that help him in his work of bringing us closer to God.

I praised God so much during this sermon Bishop. Jesus' tears are God's tears. He weeps at our crushing heart over death and loss .. what a good God who came, died and rose again to raise each of us again. He brought death to death . What a good God. God bless you Bishop Barron into deeper and deeper faithfulness.
From a laity who has drunk deeply of your sermons and taken it to church and preached to the hungry congregation as there is no priest in this place of brokenness waiting for redemption and the coming of His Kingdom in glory.
- From the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
A deep felt thank you.

I deal with panic attacks by asking God to remove that level of fear in Jesus as he went through his crucifixion. It helps me if I suffer for someone else.
