What would a 15 handicap shoot at Augusta, according to 3 Masters champions

I played Sawgrass on a Monday after the tourney. Played from the player tees. Plus one hc, didn’t break 100.

When I was 35 I am now 70. I played on the PGA course in Palm Beach Gardens the Monday after the PGA tournament, with three of my golfing regulars. At that time, I drove the ball as far as any professional golfer. Around 275 yards and out to 300 yards 20% of the time. You can’t understand today how far that was with a persimmon driver. None of us shot under 100. That year I played Doral the blue monster from the tips. This was an amateur tournament but not PGA tournament conditions. I had probably the greatest round of my life and shot a 91. If it had been today’s Augusta, I think I would’ve been lucky to shoot 120.

Thing is, a 15 handicap isn't "usually shooting mid 80s". You get your handicap from the best 8 of your last 20 rounds. I'd say a 15 handicap usually shoots high 80s - low 90s. At Augusta? I'm an 18 and if i shot less than 110 I would be delighted. Wouldn't be disappointed if i broke 120.

The distance alone adds 18, then add the fact they shoot 15-20 over on their home course, a place where they know every bounce.. add green complexes, min 50 over

I’m an 11 HC, shot 81 today at my local course and I’d be STOKED to shoot a 99 at Augusta! Or one under whatever my buddy shoots 😅

Obviously, Augusta is a different beast, but I’m a +4 HC and absolutely love fast, true greens. Putting and chipping is easier when you know what to expect. Plus, with a caddie…that’s a huge help. Not taking away from tour pros. Those guys are great, but getting to play those conditions all the time is easier than playing average courses, in my opinion.

As a 2 handicap 25 years ago at Pinehurst #2 after a tournament, I shot 90. Hit 1 GIR. Had 1 up & down. I was just off the green on 16 holes chipping for birdie.

A true 15 handicap.. one that doesn't bullshit people on shots and counts fouls and plays it as it lies. If they shot less than 150 I'd be very surprised.

I’m convinced they are so good they’ve forgotten how bad a 15 handicap would really play on this course 😭 I’m like an 18 handicap and think I’d struggle to break 120 maybe even 130 lmao those greens are just a different animal

I think the last group out on every tournament at least until the cut should be a amateur group of locals including a scratch 5, 10 and 15 handicap. Could be a lottery system. Would give a cool idea of how hard tournament play actually is

A 15 handicap ain't breaking 100 on your local 6300 yard course with a rating 70 or lower. Idk if they're being modest but a 15 ain't breaking 120. A "scratch" barely breaking 90
