I've been consistently shooting in the low 90s for the past few weeks, but I've been on a mission to break 90 for the first time. Today, I applied the lessons from this video on the course and managed to score an 85. While I've always aspired to break 90, your approach of breaking it down hole by hole truly transformed my game. It made me rethink my shot selection, leading to more strategic decisions on when to go for the green in two. The result? Fewer misses and better outcomes on every hole, simply by adjusting my expectations. I even carded a few well-earned pars and sunk a birdie from 15 yards out on one hole. This video is hands down one of the best I've come across, and I've already shared it with others. Thanks for the game-changing insights!

This is probably my favorite golf channel. Good tips, casual presentation, some humor thrown in. Love it.

I've been golfing for years. I was always a guy who shot between 95-98 not matter what I did. This summer, since watching your videos I'm consistently shooting in the mid 80's. I haven't change my swing I've just changed the way I think about the game. ALL THANKS TO YOU PLAYA!!

Ok man, I went out this week and shot 82. Played the smart game. Played for Bogies on some par 3's that in the past I've lost more balls in the water than hitting the greens. Worked to get the ball to the 100 yard mark and attack the green on 4's and 5's. I'm becoming a playa, not a hacka! Thanks for your video's. These have helped my mental game more than anything else on youtube.

Wow, without seeing your video I did most of this and between June and August I went from 20.8 to 15.9. All this tips are 100% achievable. The extra thing I do is just try to score 15 for each 3 holes. I found that if you only play 3 holes at a time, you put the bad holes out of your mind and concentrate on your next 3. Great video that everyone could benefit from. Thank you.

3:41 ... As a German I really needed hear that advice of ''Play AWAY from Scheiße'''. I'll make sure to utilise that strategy tomorrow!

Great advice. I like that you really did try to play like a 15 handicapper. I have seen other videos from teaching pros who attempt to do the same thing. They hit a 7 iron off the tee to approximate the distance a 15 hcp would get. Then they hit another 7 iron 180 yards onto the green and 2 putt for par. A real 15 hcp will hit maybe a 5 hybrid on the second shot and leave it short and to the left of the green. For years I have viewed bogie as a good outcome and sometimes it is the only outcome possible. And as you have said, this sets me up for a lot of par possibilities. The short game is everything - chipping, putting and bunker shots. I am an older 13 hcp who has lost several yards of distance on all of my clubs. I therefore have moved up 1 and sometimes 2 tees on the drive. There is no shame in hitting shorter drives. Leave the ego in the trunk of your car.

Awesome lessons here. I've been a consistent 92-96 golfer the last few years but after just one round employing this system (with a little bit of luck I'm sure) I broke 90 for the first time ever shooting an 87 today on a course I've only played once before in my life. Honestly this mentality helped me get 80% of that the other 20% was cleaning up my short game with more consistent chipping. I'm really happy with what I've learned from this video, I feel like it helped a ton. Playing again tomorrow, we'll see how she goes

Over the last year I’ve gone from 28 > 15 handicap, I’ve had lessons but the way of the playa mentality has been huge for me. Love the videos and content keep it up 🎉

My handicap is 21 (USGA handicap Index 18.5), it has taken me 18 months to get from 28 to 21. I have been working consistency in my iron swings as well - BUT, I watched this video and tried it. I didn't always use the part about aiming for the back of the green if I knew that my club distance was good enough to get it in the middle of the green.
The result, 1st round after watching this video was shooting an 86 - best game of my life - and that included a penalty for a lost ball. Unbelievable! thank you thank you thank you!!!

Great video! I've followed your method for the last year and a half and got down to a 15.4 recently. Every hole as a par 5 have been key! And yes, par 3s is where I lower my scores. Works 80% of the time every time! Passing this video onto others!

When I first saw your videos I was a 20+ handicapper. I applied the "way of the playa'" and man; started seeing results. I struggle getting it up (the ball lol) so my flight is very peircing. Followed your advice of knowing my game and just playing it; fuck the haters. Got all the way down to a 13 handicap. After a few years there of constant scoring 82-88 avg...fell back into the peer presure and started going for long distances for no reason; layups went from an easy 9 iron to trying to hit longest clubbs in order to try and reach the green (which worked once in every 20 attempts). After watching this video two weeks ago, went back to my old playa' ways. Results? past 4 rounds have all been great in my book (84 and three 85s). So I had to circle back here and just drop this comment in appreciation of the way of the playa' .Cheers brotha

I appreciate the Cool Runnings reference at 19:20.

This is great advice, thank you for making these videos.

I remember a guy telling me to forget about 71 par and play a round as if 90 is par. It completely revolutionized the way I approach a round and I now can shoot a low 80s round on my best day whereas before the shift in mindset id be able to shoot a 88 best case.

Watched your video yesterday after spending the last 2 years fighting to break 100. Kept the rules in mind throughout the round and finished in 90, with double bogeys on 16 and 18. Thanks for the process.

Matty,
So glad you're back to content like this.
Personally, I think this is where you separate yourself, create your largest audience, make the biggest impact.
The travel content is fun also. Really liked the used clubs from every town series. Playas can play almost anything.

Not having seen this video till today, I'd used a lot of this thinking playing in a national tournament in my flight knowing last year, bogey golf won the flight. My goal was to break bogey each round and I did. I came in 3rd. One key I had worked on was some simpler chipping techniques he covers. Some of his thinking is covered in Bob Rotelli's book but his demonstration on the course was the superb. I look forward to watching more of his videos.
