I'm new to printing and was disappointed with the results in terms of sharpness, I used your method and my new photos look so much better. Thanks!

Print viewing distance is 50% in Photoshop. At 400% viewing distance you should have halos. It’s the micro edge halos that create the sharp look in the print. But if you see any haloing at 50% viewing distance in Photoshop on a print resolution file, then, yes, get rid of the halos!

Doing it this way I would definitely want to do a merge up layer and then only erase out the halo, so it doesn’t affect any of the rest of the image.

This is a nice method you have shared, but from 2:15 onward I'm unable to follow what you are doing to arrive at the final edit. For example, I don't see New Selection when going to my channels in Photoshop CC. I also don't know how you were able to see the Find Edges selection in the Layers and it doesn't reduce the halo effect for the highlights. Thanks

Can’t get this to apply the Alpha 1 channel to the layer mask
