In this video I will find the forces on a beam leaning against and connected on a pivot on a wall, and resting on the ground.

This problem looks simple but one of hardest to get around. I still can't generalise how a 240N force at one point produce 320N force.

1:56 Mr. Michel, could you please clarify how the force from the ground is totally vertical? I assumed it would be in the direction of the beam so as to have two x and y components.

Mr. Michel please also elucidate on how the net forces are zero in both x and y plane?

is the Force y of the ground negative 320N since CW is negative? (bottom)

same with the 240 N in the Force x of the beam hinge? is it also negative?

Your vid’s are the best analysis of statics I’ve seen !! I studied physics years ago and never felt comfortable with the static forces’ principles. Thanks for clarifying these concepts.

sir, thank u so much. U have no idea how hard physics is for me as im not a math kind of person. But u made a dummy like me to understand this easily. thank u again

at 7:13, don't we have to add in center of gravity of the beam as well?
