How to Treat Aphids on Any Garden Vegetable Plant with Soap & Peppermint Oil Spray: All the Steps!

Always test spray new sprays you bring into your garden. Each type of plant should have a test run. Soap and peppermint oil is really effective against aphids and other soft bodied insects. I use it to manage aphids, spider mites and small larvae on my beans, cucumbers, tomatoes and squash plants.

I just took a Zoom class with our University's County Extension Office. Treatments for different bugs was mentioned and we were told never to use detergents (for instance Dawn) because detergents can kill your plants. Instead, use soap, and mix the soap and water with oils. Also, when you are spraying aphids with your hose, make sure there aren't any plants behind or under the plants you're spraying. That way they won't be blown onto your other, healthy plants. I thought that was a good reminder.

Thank you! They are so tiny that I didn’t realize that those were aphids, as I hadn’t had a problem with those with my summer squash it was Mexican beetles. I believe aphids are on my newly planted baby squash after watching this video. I will spray after the rain is gone and leaves are dry.

I have not sprayed the sunflowers so now I find them under the leaves as I pull down the stalks. I am also finding them just under the outer leaves of corn. Time to spray again. 🌽🐛🪰🦗🌻

Dr. Bronner's Castile peppermint soap, I add other essential oils. Works wonderfully

I think horn worms stripped two of my Tiny Tim tomato plants. I have them in 5 gallon buckets. I didn’t even realize it was happening. They stripped them clean.

I need to inspect my plants better. That peppermint oil soapy water spray really works well!
