rulers > line tool

putting a ruler down and tracing over it allows for a straight line w/weight

Adobe: *raises price of Photoshop*
Everyone: *pirates Photoshop*

I love Clip Studio so much. In additon to being WAY cheaper and more intuitive to use than photoshop, it's also made with illustrators in mind as its target audience. Photoshop is not, it's for photographers. Oh yeah, and Clip Studio is much lighter on your computer, so now you don't need a really powerful computer with tons of memory just to draw. This is great for those of us on a tight budget with cheap laptops

something very useful for beginners is the 3D model. You can pose it completely and you basically just trace it. It even gives you a basic understanding of shadow and light. For a beginner artist like me it's very useful for learning anatomy and posing.

idk if you'll read this comment but you can use the grid or ruler to do the lines as you wanted

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before, but there's a ruler option that lets you draw dynamic straight lines! I suggest you play around with the different rulers and see which one suits you the best <3 There's also a lot of cool brushes, screen tones etc. that people upload for free to Clip Studio, so look into that as well.

Pro and Ex are essentially the same.
The two differences are:
-Some "story" options that allow you to keep pages on one file instead of having a file for each page.
- Allows you to make animations longer than 24 frames.

I've been using Clip for yearrrs, long before the name change.
Tip: Vector layers will become your best friend with lining.

Clip studio has an asset shop where you can download a bunch of different brushes so you might find some textured brushes on there! 😊😊

For those wanting Clip Studio Paint EX, they have MANY sales, so if you are able to hold off for sales, there is a possibility to get this cheaper. I got EX for $60 ish

Update for people watching this video. As of August 2022, Clip Studio Paint has announced a switch to a subscription based service starting with version 2.0. If you bought the program, you will no longer get updates after the last 1.xx update unless you switch to the subscription. Subscription price isn't known yet. Support for 1.xx will also stop once CSP 3.x is launched, when that is is unknown.

Edit as of the 29th of October, 2022:
CSP seems to have gone back on this decision, as on their website they state that both CSP 2 and CSP 3 will be available for one-time purchase. But remember, if they think they can get away with changing to a subscription model, they will do it. Do not ever let them, just as community outcry caused them to change it back this time.

I've been using Clip Studio Paint for several years now on my comic, having switched over from Photoshop years ago. I'm fully sold on CSP for all art projects besides photo manipulation or pixel art. It draws better, it paints better, and it ESPECIALLY inks better. Plus there are nice comic-specific functions that Photoshop simply doesn't have. Clip Studio Paint is the program of choice for me even when I'm just making character art and paintings.

Thanks for the good video. I came to all the same conclusions you did, and years later I find myself wishing Photoshop would adopt certain features CSP has, like being able to quickly flip the entire canvas horizontally to check your balance.

I know a billion people probably already gave you this tip, but for your lineart! If you make your panels on a vector layer (the layer button with a small box next to the normal layer button) there's a "change vector width" tool that you can use to change the width of your lines and give it more character. That said, you can also use the ruler tools called "Linear Ruler" and even "Ruler pen" to laydown guides for your panels, then go over those lines with your pen and it'll trace the rulers exactly, with the texter of your pen and your widths!
