When things like this happen it can feel like the world has ended!

Always ask for things in writing!

I think I would cry if I ever get a job offer that gets rescinded

Always wait until you start our boarding day and paper offer. I usually use sick days for that process just in case something goes wrong. As a Bay Area resident most companies here they do that a lot of times.

Check this out: last week I was told by one HR recruiter that they offered the position to another candidate ; a week later the hiring manager reaches out and tells me that I’ll be hearing from HR soon re: the position; later that day a new HR person calls me and makes an offer and later sent it via email. I told her I needed 24 hours to think it over. The following day the 2nd recruiter calls me and tells me that they had to rescind the offer due to an internal process and candidate.

What an emotional roller coaster. It was for a Director level role where the person who is currently in the role was supposed to be retiring 1/1/25…maybe they decided to stay.

Either way, unbelievable!

I had a client move across the country for a job, only to be completely miserable ! He found a new job in another city, but lost some money on the new construction home. Who rescinds offers ? Good for her . Wait for an offer in hand .Like a home contract . Verbal is Awesome advice Bill !

Really appreciate this video and the story you shared. Before giving notice to your current employer, definitely take Bill's advice and wait for the formal offer in writing along with a set start date.

Even with an offer letter with writing and a firm start date I still got my job offer rescinded from a well known company and all they did was gave me a vague reason why.

I think the companies that do this should have to pay min 3 months up to a year in wages as per their contract.

I'm going through a similar thing. I spent money I don't have to prepare for a new job and I get an email today after I canceled appointments and bought what I needed saying the job site may have canceled their request and now I won't know until tomorrow or monday if this happens I will leave a negative review and warn everyone I know not to waste their time with this company.

So I got offered a job, and I asked if the pay could be negotionable, HR said yes and told me they would get back to me. The next day, HR emailed me that they were unable to match me and that I was an impressive candidate, and good luck. So I don't understand, did they rescend my job offer due to asking for a few more dollars?

I had a job offer 2 months ago, it was about a position that would open in a few months. as you said I didn't say anything to my employer because I wanted to see if I was going to get hired in the first place. when the time came they started giving excuses without saying openly no, which seemed very strange to me, and finally they told me that they can't hire me because there is not enough work and when things get better they will definitely call me back. They instead offered me another position that was some miles away far from my place of residence and given the fact how expensive gas costs are right now, I would need half of my salary to pay for gas, much less the time I would waste on the road. my question is how should I think of the whole situation and what is your opinion of this?

Hi Bill, great video! So what should we do if you have something in writing (contract+start date) and still get the job offer rescinded?

I just started a new job and been helping with the onboarding process. I called the candidate to see if the person was still interested in the job and stated to the person we will write an offer the end of the day or next week on Monday. The person sounded really excited about the job, but my hire ups stated they question the person’s experience. I been stressing about it all weekend… What’s a good response to tell the candidate that their offer has revoked? Even after telling them we’ll write them an offer letter? I feel so bad and this is my first time messing up an offer. Just to clarify, no offer letter was actually sent. Only a verbal, but I misunderstood my hire ups.

Thanks for posting this video! Great advice!

I have a second interview for a company I used to work as a contractor for about 11 years ago. I was let go from that contract with no warning and never given a reason. So I don't know if it was for performance or something else.

Anyways, I applied at that company for a position in a different department. I asked HR if there was an issue that I contracted and was let go before. The HR person said no and that there is no record of me working there because I was a contractor. She said that there wouldn't be any record of me because I wasn't a permanent employee. But I wonder if being let go is a bad look.

I got called for a second interview and was wondering if this would be an issue moving forward with this company and if they may rescind an offer based on my past experience with them. Any info or advice you can give me would be appreciated!
