As a product owner who has worked on multiple new products, I can say that the UI design is not really researched by UI/UX folks. What UI/UX folks mostly do is beautification of an already ideated UI which is now important because of multiple competitors with similar product category. Example can be why myntra is preferred for shopping clothes over amazon. But its not a recurring task and sooner or later when the whole UI components and infra is in place, the dev teams later on do not interact with UI/UX team for any new enhancements or additions other than getting mockups for references and sometimes the PO or BA themselves make mockups to eliminate the middle man. So you need to be really really good in this field to earn money.

User experience designer are responsible to identify the users' problems, define the practical solvable problems that could impact the user's experience and design the solution in that way a user find it useful and usable with exciting features that came into an app from a business idea.

For example, suppose a business go to designers with an idea and asked to design a navigation app that will help our target (cyclists) to explore undiscovered location or places.


So to come up with a solution or app we will actually do some surveys and interviews with cyclists to understand their pain points with out the apps, these problem might be related to safety, road infrastructure, restroom, hospitality, relax point, awareness, etc. Taking these points into account we prioritize what problem should be solved that would really make impact with available resources.
Once problem defined designers came up with ideas like, let the map communicate the conditions and access of roads, or let cyclists find cafe or restaurants available in this unknown place, let users know this place is kindi hostile at night, or let users find nearest police station in case of emergency, awareness of area & people. These are just few examples of ideas we came up in early stage of ideation.

Once all team, stakeholders and business like some strong ideas we began to design userflow, wireframe, and prototype to test it with the targeted users to measure the usability by observation & asking questions. Then we iterate and address all the issues collected during testing round.

Once all done we prepare design and additional documentations to send it forward for development. 🎉 Bingo!! We have successfully made a digital product that will help cyclists to explore further.
