🩺ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on the run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.

At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine. We find a lot of undiagnosed prediabetes or insulin resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like prediabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

Good afternoon,
I just found your channel and pleased that I did. 1 1/2 weeks ago I had, from what I was told, a heart attack or event. I was taken to the ER of a good heart hospital, talked into getting a cath done and then a stent. There was a 100% blockage. I have been prescribed a statin, 2 BP meds, a platelet thinner and baby aspirin.
Back 3 years ago I weighed almost 300lbs at 76", was using a cane to walk, had high blood pressure, gout, and had flaking skin. My family history is littered with heart attacks. I then started doing LCHF and then rolled into a diet with even less carbs. My weight is sitting at about 240 at the moment, my skin has cleared up, gout is gone and prior to the event I had moved off my HBP meds. I wasn't feeling bad prior to the event.
My world has changed in less than a week, really a day. However, there was little if any heart damage. When I was discharged from the hospital I asked the doctor if there were limitations I should be concerned about. This was after making the point that I am basically stupid and don't understand the words "You should take it easy". He told me to take it easy for a WEEK, do the rehab(an exercise program with a heart monitor)....and that was about it. Oh yeah, take my meds with a religious zeal.
When my father had a triple bypass they laid out a massive amount of restrictions. While I am not frightened by what was said I am concerned that i was given so limited of advice. I did receive a 5 page out processing which mainly said don't eat fatty foods and take your meds.
Has the science come so far that they don't seem to have any concerns, or voiced concerns, yet will say don't eat fatty meat? I am just confused. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
GT

About 13 years ago I had severe angina over a period of time exacerbated by its sheer you're walking. 12 months before I had passed my stress test. Now we all know stress tests are ridiculous and predict nothing but that was state-of-the-art.
So here I am 18 months or so later and I can't even walk. The doctor shows me five arteries 95% clogged one's already dead and being absorbed into my body. He offers lifestyle change or cabg. I said I'll take BOTH! I said Kickstart me healthy and I will do the rest diet and exercise. He said nobody keeps their word. They are back on the fats and carbs the moment they feel good. I said watch me. Here it is 13 years later. My lipid and blood profiles sparkle.

I owe myself a CIMT.
I f I can get somebody to prescribe one I'll even pay for it out of pocket. Thanks Doc for all you do!

Unfortunately my body doesn’t care about lifestyle changes and exercise and low BMI … it continues to make plaque

Well what do you do if you have a 95% blockage and have severe angina… are you supposed to live with the pain

When your favorite tool is a hammer stuff just has that 'nail look' to it.

Had 90 percent blockage in Circumflex and they put in a Bare Wire Stent ... one year later had another Angiogram and was told Stent was 50 percent blocked with Scar Tissue .... looking back I might have been better off not having the Stent .... I probably could of worked off the 90 percent blockage but the Scar Tissue I imagine is permanent ... although Scar Tissue would be more stable than Soft Plaque ... was also told that if you have Bypass Surgery at a later date any Bypass has to work around your Stent or Stents ... you can't connect a Bypass where there is already a Stent ...

I had two stents six years ago. Would whole-body vibration be safe concerning losing the stent??

90% of stents don't work..? i find that hard to believe as i had to have 2 stents put in january 2007, 15 years ago... as you say, it's not the stents alone one needs the lifestyle changes as well...

very important - always have a pack of aspirin with as you at all times as you never know when you or someone else might need them...

on arriving at the hospital in january 2007 the doctor asked whether i had taken any medicine... i ummmed and aaahed and finally told him i'd taken 4 aspirin... he smiled and told me that was a wise decision which had certainly bought me time and had probably lessened the damage due to the blood thinning ability of aspirin... he also went on to say they would have given me aspirin first thing on arrival anyway as part of the MONA protocol - morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin, aspirin...

What is the effect of SGLT2 to HDL, LDL and Triglycerides? LP(a) PLAC Test? To atherosclerosis?

I’m not convinced that stents all always the best choice for people experiencing cardiac events (such as a heart attack). Everyone says it takes the pain away and they feel better but most go on to have more heart attacks. Perhaps they should’ve been sent home with medication and change their lifestyle

Wow. So you're in favor of not clearing blocked arteries? Is that wise medical advice?
