How to stop Rumination in 3 steps

Rumination is a thinking process which maintains distress in common mental health problems like depression, OCD and PTSD. In this video, I give a simple overview of what Rumination is and how we can work to stop it.

The three steps are:

Recognise it
Get leverage on it
Refocus attention

Rumination can be thought of as a "higher order behaviour", which means that, even though it isn't a behaviour that is directly observable (it happens in our heads), it is kept going through behavioural processes. The problem with this process is that it can keep us stuck dwelling on our past failures or perceived shortcomings, and can take us away from pleasurable or rewarding experiences in the present.
