Are you buying the PlayStation Portal?
BTW I did finally get this thing apart lol, check out the video tomorrow to see what’s inside 👀

Companies need to stop going for these kinds of devices. Input lag needs to be solved first before these kinds of products become something worth buying.

Man, it reminds me of the performance of remote play with the PS Vita and the PS4, at least the PS Vita can play its own games and it is pocketable.

If you ever feel useless, just remember this thing has airplane mode

This is why the PS Portal needs a way to connect to the PS5 directly through a wireless connection. It would be the best way to stream when at home while providing a very fast signal straight to the Portal itself. It also wouldn't be reliant on your internet connection

PlayStation Portal! what your phone can do! But less!

Honestly, I've watched about 5 or 6 review videos and yours is perhaps the most honest and helpful one yet. I've been trying to figure out whether or not this thing performs any better than a Backbone when it comes to latency over a local network and you've answered the question pretty directly. Thanks man!

PS VITA vs Playstation Portal

Vita
- has it's own games
- can play it offline
- take it anywhere
-can do remote play

Portal
- can only do remote play
- can only use it on wifi

This is, in my opinion, the most practical usage for a device like this. I travel a lot for work and would be on a different network than my ps5 and I can already say that lag would not be enjoyable for me at all. Great review! I’m gonna have to pass on this until they finally figure out streaming devices because the technology is just not there yet.

You see during the PSP era we had ad-hoc which gave it a solid connection. But the distance was limited and also the games will stand alone on the handheld. While making it not stand alone it's going to tank product. I can see a viable for $100 but not 200.

Too bad PlayStation didn't just make their own Steam Deck.

It should have just been its own handheld console.

Do you need to be close to your PS5 to connect and do you need it on?

You make such a solid point on stick drift, I am literally on my 3rd PS5 controller!

I'm just here to figure out why Sony thinks this junk is worth $200.

Sony: "Let's remake the VITA, but it only does Remote Play."

i suppose the advantage of Portal is its tactility vs other ad hoc solutions like the BackBone and whatnot. Also, i'll bet $50 the decision to make the headset proprietary to the Portal was a decision made by an MBA who has no interest in gaming, only the bottom dollar.

Wouldn’t a direct connection of some sort to the PS5 have been better for latency?

Just seems like a slightly better WII-U Gamepad... Unfortunate to break it while trying to take it apart, but it was for science, and now other people can be aware of it if they take it apart also.
